Kano State Residents Panic As Dozens Of People Reportedly Succumb To Strange Sickness

The recent rise in deaths in Kano state is a source of concern to residents.

A health worker, who spoke off the record with TheCable alleges that 180 persons have been buried in the last four days.

One of the sources at the Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital Kano said most of the deaths resulted from hypertension, anaemia, diabetics, malaria and typhoid.

Another source also attributed some of the deaths to ulcers “as a result of hunger and poverty which requires urgent attention from the government and wealthy individuals.”

There has been panic in the state since the deaths went on the increase after the state recorded its first case of COVID-19.

Areas where deaths have been reported include; Zage, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Gwale, Kurna, Dala, Chiromawa, Zango, Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kumbotso, and some local government areas outside the metropolitan like Bichi, Kunchi, Wudil, Gwarzo, and Shanono.

Adamu Umar, a cemetery guard at farm centre, said he buried over 17 people, adding that the situation is scary, as it is unusual since he began working there in the last four years.

On Tuesday, about 10 people were were reportedly buried at Dandolo.

Tijjani Hussaini, the state’s executive secretary of the primary healthcare board, said they were yet to ascertain the cause of the said deaths, but that the situation had “sent residents panicking.”

“The investigation is prompted by reports that more deaths have been recorded in the past seven days. We want to know the number of persons already dead. We also want to investigate how they died,” he said.
It is when we have a good idea; it is when we get the outcome of the findings that we can properly draw conclusions and brief the public.”

    1. Its corona virus killing people. Corona virus triggers health issues that lead to death if not properly treated. We all knew this will happen in the north after that their governors meeting so why are we shocked?

    2. This has nothing to do with coronavirus.
This is meningitis, with symptoms of meningitis and no symptoms of coronavirus.
The government knows but yet they want to misinform the people.
The death toll have been rising since the last 4 weeks.
I know someone who lost 6 relatives in the last 4 weeks, mostly seniors.
The heat is unbearable in the north now.
And please, anyone who hasn’t, should please get immunization against Meningitis, it kills very fast.

    How does that saying go?

If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck l and quacks like a duck guess what, it is a duck.

People of Kano, Corona is in your state full force. Please act fast instead of pretending oblivion. If no action is taken people in your state will die like flies.

  12. Ignorance play big role in what goes on in the north. From cases of polio to other sicknesses. I saw a video one young man from the north washing his hands, speaking Hausa which I don't understand but I heard Corona Virus. After washing his hand, he drank the water he used to wash hand and he with his friends were mocking the virus

  13. I saw a reporter with a video from one of these media houses yesterday night, at d burial site , where they said they buried seventy bodies just yesterday & that they were informed that more corpses were being brought for burial. Most of d dead were old people.

  14. Didn’t u guys see that video on Sunday, where there was a football matched being watched by a crowd ,cheering them? No mask, gloves, social distancing & all. In d first place, a core Muslim from d North ( talking about Nigeria), does not believe in Corona, it’s a Western sicknesses, as they claim. We gave our “maiguard “ masks & gloves to use but he declined. I think they instructed them in their praying ground not to believe that Corona exists.

  15. It's most likely lassa fever outbreak. Saw a video and the patient exhibited classical signs and symptoms of lassa fever. It is equally a deadly viral infection.

  16. Its not Wuhan coronavirus that is killing them!

I read and also heard from someone that lives in Kano that, it is a seasonal sickness of meningitis. The high temperature makes it deadly. People are noticing this because of the lockdown.
