Labour Room Drama 283

OMG!!!

Ah Stella, I'm back again with my second LRD.

So 2 weeks ago, I had my second baby. Infact, it was a whole new experience for me. It really confirmed the saying that no two pregnancies are the same.

From the beginning of my pregnancy, everything was different. The morning sickness was worse this time around, my stomach was bigger and heavier, infact, from 6 months, I could barely walk well. Twas as if the baby was hanging in between my legs ready to drop at any moment.

So you can imagine my surprise when my EDD came and went and no sign of labour. Ahn ahn?!

For my first baby, I had him before my edd sef and so I was expecting the same thing this time around. Yet, no show. I became worried oh. Anxious and worried. Coupled with this coronavirus saga and with everything going on, I was so anxious to have my baby early so my mom can come around before the Corona situation got worse. I kept going to the hospital, the doctor would check and ask me to go back home that I wasn't dilating and my baby's head wasn't downwards. Haba?! At 40 weeks?

Even the nurses at the hospital kept wondering why I hadn't put to birth yet.

The ones that hadn't seen me in a while thought I had maybe gone to another hospital to have my baby yet, there I was, still pregnant. Mehn, it was hard. I was so tired of being pregnant and just wanted my baby out. After seeing the doctor for the umpteenth time, he still said the same thing; no dilation, baby's head not downwards, I knew it wasnt ordinary anymore. So I called my parents and siblings who by the way were already out of their mind with worry, my mom especially and told them.

Immediately, they scheduled midnight prayers for 3 days on my behalf. My pastors too weren't left out. They kept calling to pray for me. I too joined in the midnight prayers as much as I could. I played all the gospel songs on my list. Infact, Mercy Chinwo's Incredible God was on repeat. I kept asking God to intervene. The 3 days prayer was supposed to end on a Saturday. I also had my doctor's appointment that day. So we went, I and hubby. Got to the hospital, he checked as usual and said same thing he always said. He now gave me another appointment for wednesday and that if baby hadn't come by then, he ll induce me but that he was scared the induction wouldn't work since baby wasnt in the rightful position yet. I was so sad, I wept all the way home.

Got home, was so sad I couldn't even pray. I just laid in bed and slept off. I stayed in bed till about 10pm when I was awoken by this sharp pain. Ehn? I didnt want to alarm hubby so I kept enduring it as it kept coming.

When it finally dawned on me that this was labour in it's full glory, I started timing it. From 10mins apart, it became 7mins apart. Ha! I called hubs and told him that finally it was happening. We decided to wait till sunday morning to go to the hospital. Meanwhile, my mom was supposed to come into lagos that same day too.

By 5am, I had had enough of the endurance so we raced to the hospital. On reaching there, the nurses checked and was like I had dilated to 6cm and baby's head was fully down but that baby had pooped in my womb so they were going to give me something to hasten labour. Kai! Immediately they gave me that drip, I saw hell.

The pain and contractions were back to back. No relief. I screamed, I cried, I begged infact... finally, when it was time to push, the nurse noticed the umbilical cord was tied around my baby's neck twice. She had to put her hand deep inside and untie the cord. I almost died from the pain but I was able to push and baby came out weighing 4kg. It was nothing short of a miracle.

How my doctor didn't notice the cord around baby's neck after all the scans he did still amazes me. All the same, I'm most grateful to God it ended in praise. Sadly, my mom couldn't make it before the lockdown so I'm doing my own omugwo all by myself. I ll send in my omugwo chronicles much later. Lol.

Thanks Stella.

Enjoy your omugwo........
So if i advise you now not to ever use that hositalmagain, will i be wicked?Your baby was distressed and u are so lucky that cord didnt cause strangulation....

  13. Congratulations to you.

Had a similar issue exactly 2 weeks ago but lost my baby. I even begged to be induced at 38w4d but doc said my cervix is posterior and baby's head is far, lost my baby the following week. I was later induced to bring him out,it was so painful.
Cause of death according to them was cord around the neck. People keep asking why didn't the doctor see it with all the scan i had during antenatal. I just thank God for healing. May God keep you and your baby.

  14. Dear poster and Stella, your baby couldn't engage because of the weight and that is why it took time for the head down position, some would have suggest a Ceaserean section, and be greatful you've had one baby before which makes your birth canal more open to accommodate the weight. Congratulations

  15. And cord around your baby's neck won't be visible in scans, it happens in the process of labor when your baby is trying to find a way out too
