Wike said the hotels were demolished after it violated an Executive Order on COVID 19, despite warnings from the State government.
The Governor said that the focus on hotels was because one of the coronavirus cases in the state spread the virus from a hotel.
Wike who monitored the demolition of Prodest Hotel, Alode, Eleme said his action was in line with the Rivers State Government Executive Order 6, which banned the operation of hotels across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.
Governor Wike told newsmen at the demolition scene that the law must be obeyed, hence the State Government’s decision to enforce it.
According to him; “Government has no alternative but to apply the Executive order which I signed before the lockdown of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt. I called all the Traditional Rulers and Council Chairmen and told them to ensure that no hotel operates in the State.
“We are not saying it will be forever. This is for now so that we know where we are. To reduce the cases and check the spread.
“Whether you are PDP or not, all we are saying is that nobody is above the law. If we can do this to a PDP person, then you know we are not discriminatory. Everyone must obey. Whether you are in the PDP, SDP or no party, you must obey the law. If any other person does the same thing, the same rule will apply.
“We said no hotel should operate within this period. Unfortunately, the PDP Youth Leader in Eleme joined others to flout the Executive Order. Therefore, the executive order will be applied.
“We said if any hotel operates, the government will bring down that hotel. We are doing what we have told people that we are going to do.
“Nobody wants to obey any rules. We are saying just for now, keep off, let us see how we can keep our people safe.
“Look at the rate of infections, most of these people are found in hotels. Look at the man that died, he was at Mingi Hotel in Rumumasi. Due to that contact, we have had other seven cases.
“People should help us and support the Government for Rivers people to be safe. The Security Council will meet to review the strategies and achievements or setbacks, moving forward.
“All we are doing is to protect our people. Some people may not like our strategies, but our objective is to achieve results. ”
Governor Wike reiterated his declaration that no hotel should operate anywhere in the state, adding that the Managing Director of the hotel at Onne has been arrested.
from daiypost
At the end the Rivers state govt will have to pay for damages
ReplyDeleteThis man is wicked, power drunk and senseless !! Evil being ! May d wrath of God find you and yours ! Wicked somebody
DeleteNever the wrath of God will not find him. It is a simple instructions stay at home don't open hotels , una no gree, as Dem block una ear with stone. So the owner got what he ask for. So don't bring the name of God here in vain
DeleteHe should have just closed it down instead of demolishing it. Them offend am before?
DeleteWhy not seal up the hotel and seize their license for operation. They can even fine them plenty millions. But demolishing someones sweat is wickedness.
DeleteMaybe Wike knows smthn abt the owner we do not know. Even if hes a govt official dat built it with looted funds, dis isnt the way at all. Its barbaric. period
Give to Ceaser what is Ceaser's
DeleteOnly in the Zoo called Nigeria will such happen 😏.
DeleteWhere is Ola that was looking for people's car to buy on Auction? Come and defend this nonsense with your EP mindset.
DeleteThe said hotel pdp youth leader’s hotel is an accommodation for prostitues and they were hosting parties and disregarding the law simply because he’s a pdp leader. At first when the task force came to close it down, the man shot at one of them. That was how the case escalated, the owner disappeared into thin air and Wike had to be called in. The law had to be enforced as Wike promised and Wike has put a 5million Naira bounty on him for anyone who can bring him in.
DeleteI watched Wike this morning ... The man is trying unlike Gandollar. He said it was in a hotel that a covid 19 patient died just that he didnt want the people to know. He told them but they disobeyed. Those suspected to have it normaly lodge in a hotel...
DeleteWe no dey hear word... Others will learn.
Destroying their source of income was too extreme Mr governor! the fight is against Covid 19 not against ourselves! what kind of tyranny is this?
ReplyDeleteTo think that the man was still arrested! Well that area didn't vote for him during the elections. This demolition has further divided the state along ethnic lines. He just over did things. What a waste!
DeleteAnd to think presidential hotel is still open for operations. Agreey road don dey protest already. Na small small, make people finish their food at home first keep your bullets cos na from govt house e go start. Wicked man. 24hr curfew till further notice because you get food.
DeleteThis outright wickedness and recklessness. Abroad govt is helping people build back their businesses but look at what we have here in Nigeria. They should sue him,
ReplyDeleteThis is Tyranny!!!! You do not deserve to be a governor, you ain't gonna rule forever. How about you charge the hotelier to court so the law can take it's cause, how long will the people in power keep oppressing?
ReplyDelete*course*
DeleteNo excuse, Governor Woke, no excuse! What you did was bad. The worse you could have done was lockup the hotels for at least 3 months. You went too far.
ReplyDeleteHow do you want them to survive?
Did you listen to what he said?
DeleteWhat do you mean by No excuse?? He already told them what will happen if they disobeyed!!!
Delete🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Stupid man, shithole country
ReplyDeleteShame 😔😔
DeleteOutright wickedness. I can't believe this happened. Nigeria is a really sad country. And to think people are justifying and defending this act. God forbid!
DeleteNigeria is a Zoo, lawless Zoo. Even animals in jungles abide by law.
DeleteIt's like u don't know what's happening in Eleme. No lock down @ all every Saturday & Sunday party is going on.most people are just doing anyhow.
DeleteThis is extreme
ReplyDeleteNo, Mr. Governor, this is too extreme. The punishment, simply does not fit the crime. The operator could have been taken in, for a quick in and out. Arrest, charge and release in personal recognizance, with a later appearance in court for either a hearing with fines imposed or a seven day jail sentence. Guess Wike is above the law and the operator, will be scared to sue the state for damages.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame.
Exactly, what happened to imposing a heavy fine on the defaulter? Such impunity and recklessness. People are flouting lockdown directives all over the world not only in Nigeria, so what is the big deal? Shut it down, impose a fine or convert it to an isolation centre.
DeleteHe went too far.He would ve looked for another punishment
ReplyDeleteSomeone just told me of a sad story.
DeleteAbout a man that lost his mom , he was rushing her to the hospital but the police at the check point told him it's only Wike that can give him a pass, while they were arguing the mom died on the spot and the police men drove off .
Another one a couple lost their baby due to the same issue.
I just knew it would get to this .
I watched a video of him telling his police team to take a man to an isolation center simply because the said man violated the covid19 rules.. That governor needs to be put his place..seriously!! As for the hotel he demolished, it was a total waste to the state and the country..
DeleteOga Governor, why not seal the place for 3 months so owner feels the pain...why demolish it? I'm not even sure if this is legal...
ReplyDeleteThere was a law already and they dared him?
ReplyDeleteWike I'm with you on this!
Thank you ohhh, there was a law, and someone disobey and get what he asked for
DeleteOmo ale nie. He has even rendered the workers of the Hotel jobless now.🙆♀️
DeleteExactly my dear. Wike is wicked, heartless and every wicked name you want to call him, yet you didnt try your best to avoid his wrath. You walked majestically into it. What would you have him do. You should respect constituted authority. If you dont operate your hotel for few months, will you die?
DeleteThank u
DeleteKontinu to encourage rubbish👍,just know one day you or someone close could be a victim.
DeleteIf he closed it down for even six months or more than would have been better.
Yes, he warned them but they called him bluff. He is a disciplinarian and it's okay like that. Next time they will think twice before......Obedience is better than sacrifice
DeleteGod bless u(OSD) Obedience is better than sacrifice.. wike is not a wicked Man.
DeleteAnyone who supports this has a wicked spirit. If na Buhari do this thing, nothing una no go talk. Let the same wickedness follow you people. Which useless lockdown sef? You are curbing spread, yet most LGAs are not on lockdown, only Obalga and phalga? Using this period for personal vendetta. Wicked governor, make una dey hail am, e go reach una turn
DeleteAnon 21:59 baba nla omo ale ni idiot Yi mehn

Anon 0:14 cry me a river 😂😂😂😂 e pain u Wella go hug transformer if we violate the law then knw problem mak eh reach us.. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
DeleteAnon 0:14 cry me a river 😂😂😂😂 e pain u Wella go hug transformer if we violate the law then knw problem mak eh reach us.. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
DeleteOlodo. Who makes a law in a state? Did this pass through the Rivers house of assembly? A governor sits down and signs a draconian executive order and you come to internet to call it a law. Your school fees is a waste.
DeleteLet me tell you how to make law. When Peter Obi wanted to start demolishing houses of kidnappers, he first of all sent the bill to Anambra house of assembly. They debated on it and as usual in parliament, there was public hearing where stakeholders contributed. The whole process took some time. At the end of the day, the bill was passed as what the people want and Obi now signed it into law. When he demolished kidnappers building, did you see this kind of backlash?
Something as demolition is not something you wake up an say your word is law. What Wike did is an overkill. It is like using a sledgehammer to kill an ant just because you can afford it. There are commensurate punishments for issues as flouting covid orders and Wike should know it. May God forgive you for supporting this glaring act of wickedness.
It is primitive, unnecessary and indefensible to demolish that hotel which as well employs his people and pays tax in a struggling economy. The governor had the option to seal these hotels and fine the operators' heavily but chose to walk this path of malevolence. Tufiakwa!
ReplyDeleteNo sir,you need to build them their hotels back, haba!!!
ReplyDeleteWike would have just temporally seal and prosecute the owners.
ReplyDeleteDemolishing somebody's source of livelihood is a hostile thing to do this trying period. Fight corona virus and leave peoples properties alone, not obeying lockdown is not a criminal offence.
This is so wrong. He should've converted the hotel to an isolation centre until further notice. This action affects so many livelihoods. It's so unfair
ReplyDeleteBrilliant punishment but I guess he doesn't have advisers or refused to listen to them.
DeleteYou're right ✅
DeleteThis is wickedness.
ReplyDeleteThere's always an end to tyranny. Wike should stop playing God. He won't be there forever. What point is he trying to prove? Those hailing him now will only but succeed in destroying him politically if at all he still have any relevance in him. Posterity will judge his many misdeeds.
ReplyDelete...but why is no one talking about the man who went against the laid down rules? The law was that any hotel that operates will be demolished. Why didnt the hotel owner adhere to the rules? They will be treating covid cases in hotel rooms. It's not right now. If he (wike) had turned a blind eye, I am certain other hotel and business owner will start running their business and thereby putting the state in a bad situation.
ReplyDeleteTell him to demolish presidential hotel too or you look for a surgeon to cover that hole in your head. Ikwerre nonsense
DeleteAno-cockroach 21:52, if you are pushed for a fight, come out with your ID and let's fight, otherwise, remain ano-cockroach.
DeletePeople are not talking about him because the punishment he was meted doesn't fit the crime. Mike's law on demolition of property for flouting the lockdown in itself is EXTREME and screams TYRANNY and DICTATORSHIP!
DeleteEven if the man did party with 1000 people. Demolition of a structure is over kill. After demolition what would happen next. Would it stop the virus if it is determined to spread. Deter people how? It is over kill, this is like killing an ant with a sledge hammer. Even arresting the man and imprisoning him is better. Fine him the amount of money he will feel the bite. But out right destruction of property is very useless.
DeleteShut that pit you call a mouth... Imagine demolishing a source of livelihood all In the name of fighting Corona. There are other ways to punish the offender, Wike went tooooooo far abeg we will be unfair to think of blaming the man who's hotel was demolished
DeleteShanks, you said it all. Why won't people keep to simple rule. He warned before action was taken. He is simply a disciplinarian and I like that he kept to his word. Obedience is better than sacrifice, it's in the Bible sef
DeleteAll over the world people are disobeying the lockdown instructions.
DeleteTo hell with Wike, so they disobeyed and you bring down a building?? Really?
In the uk, the stay at home directive isn't criminalised. They know there is a crisis but on the other hand, the government is being careful not to totally infringe on the right of its citizen which is the right to movement.
The police will send you back home or fine you If you err. People have held house parties, picnics and when the police is tipped off, they shutdown the party/ gathering, they fine whoever they think needs to be fined.
Nobody is killing any1, arresting or destroying properties because a lockdown directive was disobeyed, hian.
Majority of Nigerians are lawless. They only behave or keep to d law when someone is used as an example. Military regime fits ds country for d sake of orderliness & sanity. An instruction was sent out throughout d state & they dared him, now others in that same WhatsApp group will wake up. Source of livelihood is where prostitutes reside & men of different shades troop in & converge indiscriminately, even at ds chaotic moment in our health system? U don’t know who has contacted d virus & they’ll still go to town & interact with other innocent people. Now , where’s d social distancing being observed here? I don’t just get it.
DeleteI have always liked this governor and his boldness but this is a no,no,no. It is abuse of power Sir. You could have shut these hotels down till this pandemic is over. Demolishing is extreme, this is somebody's sweat and source of income.
ReplyDeleteExcept there is something you are not telling us(like you are going behind to pay compensation). Even if you are paying compensation is it not waste of state resources???
Tat action was too extreme
Total abuse of power, what a destructive senseless governor!!!
ReplyDeleteWorst case scenario, use the hotel as an isolation centre and return to the owner later.
A nation that is under developed is destroying the little infrastructures it has. That building can be converted to a school, maternity hospital, creche etc.
This man needs to be bundled to the psychiatric home, he is mentally unstable.
Shame on you Mr governor!!! You are power drunk.
Extremely power drunk 🥴
DeleteHe should have just used the place as isolation center
ReplyDeleteNot needed. If it was in Lagos, maybe...
DeleteIsolation center for how many people or are you wishing Rivers to be like Kano?
DeleteWow! SO after the pandemic, what will become of the hotel owners?
ReplyDeleteThe story to tell their kids to be obedient kids not to the parents alone but to the nation as well.
DeleteGod will help us raise good kids. Amen
I said this, all those hailing this man on other blogs calling him no nonsense. Have u seen how this man is crushing pples dreams. But we know how God works. He ll surely pay
ReplyDeleteDidn't he announce what would happen to defaulters? Yet some stubborn heads decided to be used a scapegoat.
ReplyDeleteWhy not turn the two hotels to isolation centers.. Educated illiterate
ReplyDeleteThis is not right at all. Why demolish someone's means of livelihood? Why not seal the property for some month. No amount of explanation justifies your action, Mr Governor.
ReplyDeleteWike is out of control. He needs to be called to order. What a waste! There is no difference between what he did and a policeman killing a civilian for violating a law without taking him to court first. Wike told a pregnant women not to try going to hospital when next she is having issues.in short wike has lost it abeg
ReplyDeleteThis is too harsh na. It's like using a sledgehammer to kill an ant, common! He should have sealed the place for a period of time instead. Mr. Governor, go easy o.
ReplyDeleteThere is no excuse or reason good enough for what you did.
ReplyDeleteIt's wrong on all levels abeg.
Shut it down not demolished it.
Abuse of power
That is really crazy.
ReplyDeleteAgbero governor. Power drunk and very unreasonable .The lock down in PH is just so annoying.
ReplyDeleteIs it true that gov.wikeness is a lawyer or law student graduate?
ReplyDeleteTo be frank, i governor wike went too far to demolish the building. The thing here is,they never taught he will take such drastic actions. Now, others will definitely learn from this.
ReplyDeleteBut here in abroad we i reside, you dare not violet this kind of other. They might not demolish it but the hotel may not exist anymore. Its good to obey simple instruments....
This is extreme
ReplyDeleteYou guys should get ur facts right abeg!Osaroejeij which is d PDP youth leader of Eleme. held party in that hotel violating the law.taskforce went to warn him he still had d guts to beat them up with his boys.why no adhere to simple instructions. Now everyone is calling him a wicked man.
ReplyDeleteIf only u guys knw who Osaroejeij is
Very wicked somebody that feels he can take law into his hands.serves him right.
He shot at the task force!! Now he has absconded! Wike has placed a N5millon bounty on him. I guess he used the annoyance to destroy the other hotel’ too. This will serve as a deterrent to others because the hotels who paid fines in my area are still operating codedly. We humans never listen!! Na married men dey patronize all these hotels o! Are their wives kitties not functional anymore and can’t satisfy them during this lockdown and disease spreading everywhere??
DeleteAre you minding people that read news in brief?
DeleteCrucify him crucify him.
Not knowing that he(Jesus/wine) was the one who healed their sons and daughters and raised their dead.
Naija can so attach emotion to things. That's why we are stagnant.
You break the law you face penalty. If na my papa break an agreement he's aware of,pia ya punishment ozugbo ka obodo di okay.
I feel he has done what he stated he will do if anyone defaults the laws. Even the bible says that we should obey the laws of the land. So those of u saying he will face the wrath of God I feel there's no point saying that. For the management of that hotel to disobey the law that has been set, means that he was ready for any consequences. Wike is just acting according to his words which is a very good quality of a leader. Plus, he also informed traditional rulers and all stakeholders in the state about the law. So I see no reason for rendering void curses

After all the warning and thing's happening in the state he still went ahead to celebrate party of not less than 50 person's in attendant.even when they taskforce personel came their he felt he was aboved the law and his boys had to beat them up. Uptill now as I talk to u infact Eleme as a LGA it's Till functioning as if their is no Covid 19
ReplyDeleteNo social distancing, streets has been turned to market since the shut down (ultra modern nchia market). churches has been functioning perfectly well most people are just leaving their lives as if the Covid 19 doesn't exist.
I hope this will serve as a lesson
To those hotels, beerpalour etc in Eleme that has refused to obey d govt.
I hve no atome of pity for Osaroejeij

Don't mind 'em. People can't call a spade a spade. Is it that we are now disobedient children and we claim to be serving God?
DeleteIf policemen said don't pass this road, just obey them because one bullet that person is gone, and after so many years same govt will pardon the person. Who lose?
Don't do this some people won't hear. Nigerians should comply so that this thing will be tackled and we live our normal lives.
God pls help our leaders and also help us not to be like the Italians...

Beautiful nonsense.
DeleteHe is a man of his word. He said he will demolish and he did. Next time any hotel that decides to operate should expect demolition. I’m glad he didn’t backtrack and he set an example. Nigerians and their lawlessness and i discipline.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who supports wike shouldn't have a problem with supporting Buhari. He could have fined the hotel or closed it down but no he decided to be a foolish tyrant. What happens to the hotel staffs after his stupid actions? Reading the news made me soo upset. Nigeria is such a useless country with useless power hungry and foolish leaders.
ReplyDeleteIf it was Buhari acting the same way as Wike Nigeria would have crucified him
ReplyDeleteWICKED WIKE
ReplyDeleteA warri yahoo boy camped his covid sugar mummy in a hotel in warri and when her case was becoming serious took her to another hotel before she finally died. Think of how many people that has been infected already. Please leave wine alone. This is how to sanitize a bad country.
ReplyDeleteTrue colors are showing! You can't explain wickedness away! See the way he was talking to them as if they are his slaves. His voice, his countenance! So you want to be governor, police, local government chairman, task force, tout, etc. I knew it! This man has no single compassion. Amaechi was right! This man will sell his mother for money!
ReplyDeleteEberechi Wike, carry ya cross! This man must be embarrassing you everyday no matter how much he tries to cover it up. Agbero!!!
Lord rid your people of wicked rulerss!!!
Irrespective of who and what we are, we should learn to always speak and side with truth because our nonchalant attitude towards others will backfire at us when we least expected it.
ReplyDeleteWhen Wike came for the Muslims in his State, some people were applauding and encouraging him. They saw noting wrong with what he did by demolishing their place of worship and today, he has come for them. They now see him as a tyrant because he had the guts to demolish a hotel ( people's source of lively hood). Don't worry he would soon come for YOU,if we refuse to put a stop to tyranny.
This is just pure wickedness
ReplyDeleteWhat is wrong in just sealing the building or arresting the owners
True power is having the ability to crush and refusing to crush... Governor wike might have had issues with the Youth Chairman I don't know... But there are other ways to settle this matter. So now I heard that he has relaxed the lock down for 2days is he trying to say that corona virus doesn't spread on Tuesday and Wednesday? If you're anywhere around ph and obio akpor, you wont find this funny....as many of you that support the lock down and the governor's action, Just thank God that your resources have not been exhausted yet
ReplyDeleteTrue power is wielding the ability to crush but refusing to crush....
ReplyDelete"He said he will destroy it and he destroyed it" nonsense decision of all time. All the political propaganda that he made b4 getting into power, has he fulfilled them? But if na bad thing,he quickly did it. May you experience losses too
ReplyDeleteLet the truth be told, if this man were to be in Asia, will he disregard orders? When pple begin to see justice served quick and hard, sanity will quickly return in our society.
