    1. This is my MIL's talent. You can not sit with her and watch a movie in peace, you will hear stuff like - This person's mouth is so big, the ears are huge, nose is this, she is too fat.
My husband also has the same attitude, he will keep mentioning that thing till I say, I heard you the first time. There is this newscaster he always picks on that she bends her mouth to talk. I said to him, do you know If she has a stroke? He said No, she is doing it deliberately.

May God help us to be better individuals.

    1. That and the vulgarity are the reasons I don't watch or go to comedy shows by most Nigerian comedians/comedienne.

Bullying is mean and body-shaming is bullying.
Sadly, children copy this nasty habit from parents/adults.

    2. I guess @Mao's point is that some would have settled for less in choice of a spouse because of that not knowing about corrective surgery.

A childhood friend got his bow-legs corrected as a child and a coursemate had his bent legs(K-leg) corrected as an adult.

The sad thing is that there are lots of limiting factors in Nigeria - financially and lack of advancemmeant in the health sector/medical research.

  10. People should stop the stigmatization already! That was how i broke my teeth in junior secondary school. People never stopped making jest of me. It really affected me. It made me see my self less. Still battling with low self esteem. I can't look people in the eye. Always covering my mouth while growing up. Yea I fixed my teeth some months after it broke.....it fell off after 6months.......bvs how can I overcome low self esteem.

    1. Read about self respect and please focus on your positive parts

      Delete
    2. Surround yourself with positive people,

Constantly remind yourself of how wonderful and beautiful you are.

Develop awareness -- you need to know how you respond to fear and insecurity, this would actually help you to better

Let go of those words people said to put you down,

Forgive yourself for letting them get to you and finally remind yourself that you deserve love by treating your own self lovingly .

    3. Please go and visit a dentist. There are detachable dentures now and you can get your confidence back. I know someone who is using it and you will never know..

  11. Thank God there is a solution and the resources are available! Human beings really don't care about the feelings of others. Some even find joy in others sadness

  12. Lesson learnt. Never body shame anyone. Emotional abuse is a killer.

    ReplyDelete
  13. SO this half past 4 eyes can even be corrected by surgery and so many people are living with low self confidence with it. We need ministry of information and NOA to sensitise people who have it.
Also for those who have bad dentition. Those overgrown incisors and canine teeth can be corrected by dental surgery and it's cheap too.

  14. Nigerians have a way of using one's deficiencies to insult someone jokingly, they will describe you with your deficiency..They abandon your name and coin another for the person whether the person finds it funny or not.
I remember one aunty in my childhood area then,we call her "aunty baby",even as an adult, people call her baby..when I asked why,I was told she had a tiny baby voice when she was much younger and they named her "baby"...people have gotten used to the name "baby" even as she's older

    3. You can Google it - corrective eye surgery for bulging eyes. From what you learn, you still need to see your GP to refer you to a Consultant Ophthalmologist.

Prepare for the financial aspect of the process.

Be doubly sure of the procedure before you go the surgery preferably in US, UK, Germany or Israel.

I read a lot of that from BVs , while commenting on posts or pics of certain celebs that they probably don’t like. No body created of God is complete, not even U. Happy for that poster.

  25. this lesson is also for those of you here who just love to insult people especially celebrities..yes they are human. you can constructively critisice without insults as if they had personal quarels with you. yes they put theirbusiness in your face is no excuse. people know them and expect them to live a certain level of comfort lifestyle and always being in the news too helps them to be popular and eventually make money..stop the insults its is very ungodly. you cannot claim to be God fearing and not know that the words we speak have a very huge impact on people. i am not a celebritybut i always just wonder how you just insult someone who has never done anything personal to you. critisize constructively. you can correct with love please

  29. I remember a secondary school mate. Nobody really knew her name, or we probably didn't care.

    Everyone called her Yam Leg.

Even the Junior students called her Senior Yam Leg.

I wonder where she is now.

  30. I've never and can never body shame anyone, cos I knew what went through as children of an handicapped man,it was terrible.

Daddy losed proper use of one of his legs when he was a kid due to polio complications. People call us omo aro and even my school mates then.

At a point I started cursing them back with lots of tears. It was really a bad experience I tell you.

One thing people fail to realize is that we all have our insecurities and we don't need to rub it on their faces just to make yourself feel good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Some stupid things you do ehn... I remember back then in ss1, 2006, one boy and I were exchanging words. And I just said "with your one leg when long pass the other one" and that was the end of the fight. I feel so bad till this day. And i didnt even apologise! I don't know where I can find that boy to apologize.

    IK I'm so sorry.

  32. Me too when ibwas younger, my two front uper teeth were very big. People used to call me hoe teeth or shovel teeth. I used to supress laughter so they would not see the teeth if I laugh. I hardly laughed or talked in in public. It was so bad. As I entererd my twenties, they became better, they are still big but better as my face has added flesh and the teeth have arranged a little. Body shaming is very bad. I still dont laugh much in public till today

  33. Some people don't really know when to draw the line and it hurts.. I had similar experience of being mocked in school, pry, sec, university even at my work place.. My dentition is scattered, I don't even know how to describe it. The upper part is like vampire kinda teeth, lower part is somehow.. I don't have bad breath, when ever I talk u must notice how scattered my teeth is.. While in sec school, some teachers will deliberately ask me questions I don't know or tell me to read in front of the class, just to make mockery of my teeth..
It was that bad.. It affected my self esteem even till date, I hardly talk except I know you too well. I isolate myself from others alot to avoid being called vampire or other funny names, I was called a snub etc..
I wanted to fix it with braces last year but the cost was exorbitant, I couldn't afford it.. I just have to accept my fate that way.
If you someone with bulgy eyes, 4:30 eyes, bow legs, k legs, scattered teeth, big nose or any slight deformity , please don't mock the person, u aid to kill the self esteem left in him or her..

  34. I body shamed my friend in secondary school, many people laughed at her because she has an unusual growth on her head but I mocked her the most.

She eventually left the school cos she had surgery and it affected her memory, she never came back. She reached out to me on FB and I responded but I observed that the surgery left her mentally retarded.

I have forgiven myself especially as a family member developed a mental issue much later so I understand the struggle too well. I will teach my kids to be sensitive and kind to everybody including those who are "different".

  35. I have K-legs, before I entered secondary school nobody really cared about my legs, as I entered Js1 the intimidation started🀣🀣🀣, me sef no send o. After a while if I have issues with anyone, I start by telling them I know I have K-legs and it's very fortunate that I grew this tall with them. The person won't know what to say again, I start my own firing ooo. Them tire for me eh, thank God for my mum, she kept telling me I have very beautiful legs and I shouldn't let anyone pull me down or make fun of me because of that.

  36. Wow this reminded me of how I grew up with insecurities. I had flat ass, as in like a rail way ooo. I have two colours of lap.one totally fresh n very fair, the other totally black with yeye spot. It was difficult because people called me different name plus amoeba. Lol well as I grew up I read alot and got confident. Before you even insult me I will help you and laff over it. Me that look like agege bread de forgot in water. But I have the most amazing man who worship me like say na jazzπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Even some nay Sayers are even wondering what Bobo is enjoying with my railway inspired bum bum.

Everything God created is beautiful Biko.
