She disclosed this during a chat on Instagram live with Funmi Iyanda on Public Eye Live on Saturday while narrating how she was raped by her tenant when she was 17.
According to her, “75% of the cases I have on my table are from religious leaders and most times we don’t get to the end of it.
This is because when we start investigating the cases, the family would come and tell us we should leave the religious leader to God.”
She dismissed claims that indecent dressing by ladies is responsible for the increase in the number of rape cases and stressed that rape is just a sign of weakness by rapists “Nothing attracts rape. Why do they rape minors, teenagers, and even old women. Is that also about indecent dressing?
She says most victims of rape cases in Nigeria are children, teenagers, and elderly women who do not dress indecently.
“You hardly find rape cases against young women except for sexual assaults and abuse in workplaces, we find it mostly amongst children, teenagers, and elderly women, how come you are now telling me it is indecent dressing?
On the role of Nollywood in the activism against rape and abuse, she says, “The role of Nollywood is for us to create more awareness programs, have more movies that are preaching the negativity of rape and abuse, the reason it can happen to anybody, and the reason under no circumstances should any rapist be made to look like a good person.”

Okay naah....
ReplyDeleteEverywhere is hot!
I'll always listen whenever someone like this talks because this is one of the best narratives about this rape issue. So brief and breathtakingly intelligent.
DeleteSome men are not disciplined at all. It's funny,I once met a guy that was so disciplined that I slept naked beside him and nothing happened till morning. And we were dating! We had no fight! He simply told me he didn't want to have sex anymore until marriage.
ReplyDeleteI still respect that guy till tomorrow.
Such men are hard to come by
DeleteAren't you the undisciplined and immoral one, what there you doing naked on the bed of a man that hadn't
Deletepaid your bride price?
If he had had sex with you and probably later dumped you, isn't it your type that scream "rape" everywhere
like a town crier?🤸🏻♀️🤸🏻♀️🤸🏻♀️🤸🏻♀️
Do you know that that man probably did not marry you because of how cheap and silly you behaved? I mean that very incident of sleeping on his bed naked?
DeleteYou are right, a lot of people lack discipline.
DeleteMelancholy
The guy was smart. And I don't know what to call you. How can you sleep naked on the same bed with a guy you had no intention of having sex with? What if he had raped you?
DeleteHe was I've you that's why.
DeleteDid she say she and the guy has stopped dating? So it is dumped women that scream rape? Did she state that she needed him to marry her?
DeleteEjikwam ogu o!
Completely digress from the topic just to shame her And portray yourselves as sanctimonious?
Why are you people attacking her, please take the message and leave what she did, what she is trying to say is that some men are highly disciplined to the extent that even a naked woman sleeps beside them they will not react or touch! Take the message and don't kill the messenger!Haba Mana!
DeleteLol@ annon 13:04, you were soo desperate to have stripped naked just for a man to sleep with you. Abeg Zip Up men respect women more when they zip up in their relationship... am sure you have plenty body count. Kwantinue
DeleteWe have lots of disciplined men both teens and old that will never take advantage of there female friends not matter the kind of friendship they with them. Some days a go when I was reading about all this rape cases made me to appreciate may very good fried in while in the polytechnic. We were very close but never dated, I was very free with him even in their house, I could take a nap in their house during our 4 months siwes because we were working at a site close to their house. God bless you BJ for being disciplined man. God bless your home, I appreciate you even more now.
DeleteI've spent many nights at my bestie's, we sleep on the same bed though not naked and he has never acted funny.
DeleteDavid na man you be abeg!
I remember this woman during lockdown when she made a video of sharing food to veteran actors. She uses her NGO well..
ReplyDeletePlease who has seen the skit by Mr Macaroni about false allegation on rape? its mind blowing🤯🤯
She forgot to add relatives.
ReplyDeleteI was raped by a priest, blackmailed and hypnotised to silence!
ReplyDeleteI leave him to God Almighty.
Here lies the problem.
DeleteBecause of your silence, more are being raped by the priest
I am sorry. Please see a clinical psychologist. Read book on surviving abuse and heal. 🤗🤗🤗. Gather courage and when you are ready, talk about it so other ladies are saved from that monster.
DeleteThis news is not surprising AT ALL. See ehn, the people speaking out about their abuse are just a tiny fraction. If everybody speaks ehn! Everywhere will shut down
ReplyDeleteNo be lie!
DeleteI tell you.. O ma tough
DeleteTrue
DeleteFoluke Daramola was on TVC to debate with another lady on the topic "can indecent dressing lead to rape"? That was last year, I think.
ReplyDeleteFoluke opposed while the other supported.
The other lady came prepared with points and had the audience clapping. Foluke tried but was at a point intimidated because the audience were not feeling her.
Well, incident dressing should never be an excuse for rape.
I am sure the audience already had this same sick existing mindset that efforts are being made to correct today. It wouldn't have mattered if Foluke had all the points and the other lady did not.
DeleteYou are right Saphire, some days a go a man was interviewed on TVC he went ahead blaming indecent dressing as excuse for rape and I was furious with is opinion. What about those toddlers being raped, what have they exposed or what is the attraction on them to the sick men violating them.
DeleteThe audience was not feeling her because of the hypocrisy that is epidemic in Nigeria. They want something bad to happen to those women who their daddy g.o.s and imams patronise but forget that when you permit evil, it would find its way to you.
DeleteNa wa oo
ReplyDeleteIt's well
Men need to be tot values, how to respect and treat a woman right. Most men don't know a thing about respecting a woman's feelings.
ReplyDeleteGod, help me to keep my kids safe. It's becoming scary.
ReplyDeleteNot surprising.
ReplyDeleteSame Foluke that said women don't deserve equal rights in society as men is fighting rape? Irony! Does she know it's mindsets like hers that have enabled patriarchy to thrive, contributing to a lopsided society where women are subjected to all types of abuse because they are vulnerable? I find it funny when women like her, Omotola and Tiwa try to "speak up for women" after they opened their mouths to say women should not enjoy the same rights as men. Tiwa will be crying "it's hard to be a woman in Nigeria" and say "women don't deserve equal rights." All jokers.
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE STUPID! That’s why your ID sounds like goat bleating.
DeleteAnd you're a delusional idiot, that's why your ID is the name of a car you or nobody in your family will ever have.
DeleteWhat's stupid about what I said? Is it not the truth? Women in Nigeria enable a system that continually puts them at risk and then turn around to complain when the system begins to victimize them. It's an incredibly relevant conversation that needs to be had: why are Nigerian women, educated Nigerian women for that matter, opposed to having a society where their progression is just as important as that of men? Why are Nigerian women enamored with societal norms that confine them to being treated as second class citizens? If we can have an open and honest conversation about this, maybe we can all come together to agitate for better legislations which empower women to expose abusers.
But you are too shallow and close minded for this conversation, I see. Either that or one of the celebrities I mentioned pays you.
ouch. LMAOOOO
ReplyDeleteThere are many factors that contribute to adult rape. A wise lady should try as much as possible to eliminate some of the factors: Don't string guys. Don't visit unfamiliar places with a male acquaintance. Don't hustle guys. If you can hide your money and iphone(bc they are important to you), you can hide your nudity too if it is important. Some of the things are common sense. Can rape be fully eradicated? I don't think so. But women should avoid exposing themselves to the risks.
ReplyDeleteI love that analogy. "If you can hide your money and iphone, you should hide your nudity".
DeleteAnoy 16:01 please can you tell me what a 2 years old fours years old have or exposed that is so attractive to a sick minded rapist or 70years old woman in her room. There is no excuse for rape until some men are castrated or jailed for life before some men learn how to control their dick. Àwọn were.
DeleteYou are right. Nothing justifies rape but we as women need to take responsibility. Don't get stupidly drunk or put yourself in a disadvantaged position. It won't end rape but it will reduce it and more importantly, it will make prosecution easier.
DeleteSo why don't they go about raping people in the US, Brazil etc that walk about naked during summer. (Yes rape happens there but not blamed of indecent dressing). Our men will travel out of the country and have self control but come back to Nigeria to shout, short skirt causes rape.
DeleteRape is caused by rapist, not the victim.
When we wore nothing in the village rape wasn't rampant. Now an innocent child can't play with their neighbour because he is a BASTARD. Anyone who blames any lady again is a RAPE APOLOGIST!
Yemi7up: which part of adult rape as stated above didn't you understand?
DeleteMost men are not properly raised and some parents don't care to know how their male children are leaving their lives, they keep on monitoring and cautioning only the female children.
