Nigerian Activist Oluwatoyin Salau Found Dead In The US

Women around the world are outraged and in pain, as they mourn the death of 19-year-old ‘Black Lives Matter’ activist, Oluwatoyin Salau, who was reported missing in Tallahassee, Florida on June 6.

Sources say that she was found dead alongside another woman, Victoria Sims, in the southeast part of the town over the weekend. However, the Tallahassee police have not updated their releases and are still calling her a missing person.

Earlier in the day on June 6, Oluwatoyin Salau had spoken up about a s#xual assault experience in a series of tweets. She narrated her assault in the hands of a black man, who was disguised as a man of God. He offered her a ride and a place to sleep.

Oluwatoyin Salau was an activist who spoke on race, police brutality, sexual assault and issues affecting women as a whole. She was very participatory in the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests in Florida and inspired many through her words.

Her death is one of the many cases of gender-based violence against women, which have been rampant around the world in recent times. In Nigeria, in a span of three weeks, there were several trending hashtags demanding justice for six women ranging 11-22 years, who were either assaulted, raped or killed.

In South Africa over the past week, three cases were declared of women who turned up dead, including a pregnant woman found hanging from a tree with stab wounds on her body.

    3. RIP but this girl got in the car of a strange man, at night. He drove her to his house. She showered and wore his clothes. She saw him expose himself to her after her shower. She still went ahead to tell him how another man assaulted her sexually. She got in this strange man's bed and lay on her belly. This stranger asked if she wanted a massage and proceeded to rub her body all over. She did not protest until he ejaculated and slept off and then she ran into the streets and said she was assaulted. By the way, her phone wasn't even with her, it was in a Church along with her bag containing her possessions. I don't know what was going on in Toyin's life but going by her own account, I am surprised she even lived as long as she did...

    4. Who took her bag and phone to church? Are you saying she left them there before her dead body turned up?

  7. This is absolutely heartbreaking. Same reason why we are our own problem. Doesn't this singular act defeat the purpose of the protest itself....

    1. Isaiah 60
1Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

2For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

THE WORLD WILL GET DARKER BUT AS LONG AS THE BODY OF CHRIST IS ON EARTH, THE LIGHT OF GOD WILL OVERCOME THE DARKNESS.

You can ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Saviour today. Romans 10 :8-10

  25. She was very vocal about the Black Lives Matter movement, it might not even be the prime suspect who killed her. Anyone against the BLM movement could easily take advantage of her disclosure through her tweets to kill her because the guy who she accused of sexual assault would naturally become the prime suspect...

    1. You have a point. I wouldn't even advise any Nigerian parent in the USA to let their kids be actively involved in BLM or activism until they are full grown adults. Anything so political is also very dangerous. A 19yr old should have her education and college degree as primary focus. Any other thing can follow later. As long as you still live in your parents house and they pay your fees, you are subject to their authority. You shouldn't be out of the house so late. That is one of our Nigerian values. Cos if she was a full grown adult, she probably would hve seen life enough to know that not all who claim 'man of God' are Christians. Almost like American son. Though the Mum(Kerry Washington) had good intentions, the son was too young to be 'woke'. The white Dad was the better parent who wanted the boy to focus on schooling. Unfortunately being woke got him killed. I hope justice is served, but since this is black on black crime, it is just another day in πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ.

  26. It happened in God's own country.
Where majority of Nigerians call heaven.
I didn't see anyone calling for the head of the United States government in any comment or tweets I have read so far but had it been this happened in Nigeria, everyone will be blaming those that are far away from the crime scene and be calling the country all short of unprinted names.
Crime happens everywhere and no where is safe, not even america or Europe.
