Abia Gov Ikpeazu Sacks SEMB’s Executive Secretary Ogbonna For Unlawfully Employing Several People

Okezie Ikpeazu, the Governor of Abia State, has directed the compulsory retirement of the Executive Secretary of Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB, Lawrence Ogbonna, with immediate effect.

The Governor’s directive was contained in a press release by his Chief of Staff, Barrister Anthony Agbazuere, on Wednesday, after receiving the report of the Committee on the supposed employment without waiver at the Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB.

The release partly stated that Governor Ikpeazu has equally noted the submissions of the Committee to the effect that out of the 5,853 people said to have been employed between 2018 to 2020, Only 187 people were employed with waiver, leaving 5,666 people as employed without waiver.

The Governor also directed as follows: That, in case, any of the 5,666 people employed without waiver, was asked to start work by anybody, such a person should stop forthwith, having been so employed unlawfully.

“That Schools that have need for Teachers in some special areas should make their submissions to the Commissioner for Education and copy the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

“That whenever there is such need to employ teachers , government shall take recourse to the list of 5,666 people for employment”.

  1. Na wa o
So someone is happy to have got a job one minute and the next they're jobless.
Or is it that the relatives of the people that matter weren't carried along?
I don't seem to understand this situation whereby every month and year people are retiring yet the employment to replace these people is not commensurate with the retirement.
I pray we get it right someday

  2. I know someone who experienced something similar in Imo State. When Rochas came in they were all sacked after working for about 8months. Still moving around today, totally disillusioned.

  3. Very bad for those left out. How will they cope now
