Nigerian Singer Waje Reveals How Her Mum And Pastor Reacted To Finding Out She Was 5 Months Pregnant As A Teen

Singer,Waje, went down memory lane during the week when she recounted how she got pregnant while writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations. She shared her experience in an Instagram Live chat with gospel rapper, Bouqui.

She said, “I got into a relationship in SS3 and the relationship went from ‘puppy love’ to s#xual. At that time, I felt I loved him and that (sex) was the only way I could express my love. At that time, I saw a fine boy who liked me, though we quarreled on several occasions. I didn’t understand the responsibility that came with making decisions like that.

“I got pregnant and I remembered one afternoon, I was in the bathroom when someone came to my house and told me my pastor wanted to see me. I knew that day, there were two things that would happen ― either I died or I died. Everything in me got drained.

“Anyway, I went to see the pastor. He was in a conference room with other pastors and he said to me, ‘If you lie, you will die, because you are standing in front of God, Holy Spirit and me.’

“He asked me, ‘Are you pregnant?’ and I said, ‘Yes’. He was so disappointed. He told me he wanted to see me in church every Wednesday and Sunday but I would no longer sing in the choir.”

Waje also stated that her mother didn’t know she was pregnant until she was five months gone.

She said, “I wrote the WASSCE while pregnant and nobody knew; not even my mother. I told her about my pregnancy after five months.

“After one morning devotion, I told her I had something to tell her. I told her I was pregnant and wasn’t planning on aborting it.

“At that point, she already knew who was responsible because he used to come to our house. After telling her, she told me to go back to bed. However, I knew something in her broke because she didn’t go back to sleep.”

    3. @Ms Abroadian, she's so pretty. Waje and her daughter look more like sisters sef
@Bini, I rolled my eyes, like really. He couldn't talk to her as his child, but tried to put fear in her.

      Delete
    4. Candy, you obviously scorned that part.
Well, Waje didn't and chose to tell the truth before God.
Thank God that her pastor did what was right by keeping her in fellowship but out of the choir - discipline and love.
Her church didn't judge and condemn her for that mistake. Some lessons in that.

    5. But fear is the power religion has over people and MOGs wield it like a samurai sword. Remove fear and put Love, they feel powerlessness.

  3. Lmaoooo.

Awwwwww Waja, you are Indeed a strong girl 🥰😍😍🥰😍🥰🥰😍

    2. That was a narrative. She didn't imply the pastor's action was wrong.

    3. The way they talk about pregnancy makes young girls/women to consider "outside wedlock way" as something good.

Suspending her from singing was right because it was illegal.

  5. Eeyah. You're strong and beautiful Waje. It's well with you.

  6. Thank God for that pastor.
Yes, you shouldn't sing in the choir if
    you are living in fornication.
But he ought to have suspended you
from the church. 1 Cor. 5:10-12
Thank God too that you did not kill that child.
That would have been a greater sin.
Hope you are wiser through it all.

    1. No be she shouldn't be suspended from the church, but only relieved from holding any church position.

      Na wa ooo!!!
I still remember Sarah Jakes' story of how she got pregnant at 13 and so many of her father's c(T.D Jakes) were angry and left church but her father still allowed her attend church and also showed her love.

The church of God should be a place of love and not banishment.

The way you twist scriptures Sha..

    2. Suspended her from hearing God's word because she was pregnant??? Please.

    3. Twins she is called ANG for a reason

    4. @Twin and abroadian
read 1 cor. 5, and Gal. 6:1-3 and see
She is suspended and very spiritual women are sent to minister to her
It is just like you mom grounding you when you do something wrong. It is not
      in hate but in Love.
She isn't deprived of God's word. She is suspended so that other young girls will
learn to be chaste and so that she will be saved from the errors of her ways.
Please take time to study the Scriptures.
      🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    5. 1 Cor. 5: 11But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister c but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer,
a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the
church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge
those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”

Galatians 6:1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a
sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.
But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry each other’s burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

    6. Why should she be suspended from the house of God? Ask yourself, is that what Jesus would do? Relieved of a position, yes. Banned from church? NO!!!!

      Delete
    7. Na wa. The pastor did the right thing. Suspended her from choir but not from the church. Same thing happened to my cousin, she was Suspended for 2yrs from the choir but not the church. She married the guy, they had church blessing and after the suspension she went back to the choir.

    8. Why is nobody refuting the word of God quoted above and pasted; 1 Cor. 5 and Gal. 6:1-3?
Isn't it the Holy Spirit of Jesus that inspired those words?
Where you you people get your opinions from. If you have Scriptures, quote it.

      Delete
    9. @Bini,
I did not write "Banned from the church"
      What I wrote is "suspended"

      Delete
    10. ANG is right. Suspended NOT BANNED or EXCOMMUNICATED or CONDEMNED.

      Hebrews 12 v 9 (NIT)
"Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!"

Suspended for a little while but still have mature Christians minister to and guide her through that period to RESTORE HER to the fold.

Her pastor did what he discerned would work best in her situation seeing that she was just a teenager. That's why he told her to attend church on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Discipline comes from a place of love. ♥️💞

    11. They don't send people out from church but suspension, which is an act of discipline. After some years everything will be OK. My colleague had a child during her WAEC period, the guy didnt even bother, she gained admission to Poly, same school with the guy. The guy used to mock her that she was always wearing "tear-tear cloths", smelling, etc

    12. @17:53 and Mao
Thanks for clarifying these things. The word of God is clear. Those who disobey it will,no matter
      what. It is a mindset.

  11. Waje thank God you stayed in fellowship as guided by your Pastor and also your mom who though brokenhearted, stood by you through it all.
One mistake is enough. Thank you for keeping your child.

God knows we are not perfect though we strive to live by His Word.

    Stay strong in the faith.🙏💞
