  1. Did the tailor even measure the lady inthe picture, abi she just cut and join the cloth?

Most times it's better to chose styles that fit your body structure, so to avoid stories that tickle the armpits.

  3. Most "tailors" are guilty of this, but sometimes it isnt entirely their fault. When you are an Endomorph and decide to sew a style that is more suitable for an ectomorph, it most times, ends up in tears.

  4. This is currently happening to me.A cloth I wanted to use for traditional marriage was destroyed by the tailor. If you see the way she was shaking her head in understanding after I sent her the pix of the design I chose. She told me not to worry and presented the rubbish a day to my trad. The one for 2nd outing was OK but the first was rubbish.

I had to abandon the cloth there.I got red wrapper with beads and used it for first outing. The clothes are still with her, still thinking of what to do.

This tailor came highly recommended with the huge amount she charged.

    2. @phoenix, I thought i was weird doing that. I don't like my clothes displayed on a mannequin. I will abandon it for you.

  5. So many tailors are learners/apprentice/s.

If I buy good/costly materials, I look for those graduates that turned tailors, their touches are lit... Compared to others. #MyObservation #NoInsultPls

    1. Because they learnt proper pattern making. Those freehand tailors are the ones that sew rubbish.

It’s not every style that you can make freehand.

That’s why I always encourage anyone learning tailoring to add money and learn pattern making.

  6. Wow this brings a lot of bad memories..Is it clothes that look like it was sewn by a carpenter..Oh one tailor I told to sew fish skirt then..She actually cut the material to the shape of a fish and I could not wear the cloth at all or is it a tailor that sew the bust of the blouse of my cloth to my neck area. I told one tailor then to sew me a gypsy skirt she was like ''I can do it'' I showed her what I wanted..Mehn It was show of tears when I wore it ..My mum told me not to wear it as it was a skirt fit for a masquarade...

  9. I keep changing tailors and it is not funny. Fist trial, they will give you want you want. Bring another cloth. They will give it to their apprentice to sow. Complain. They will form anger,
Over to the next tailor. Same issue. I had a bad experience with the last tailor l used. I left my wrapper and the rubbish she made for her since last year. If you don't understand the style. Please say it. You will buy expensive asobi. Pay to make it and end up not wearing the asobi because the tailor made what is on his mind and not what you asked him to sow. The pain dey reach belle

  10. I have never and will never experience this, cos my elder sis is a fashion designer-a good one at that. She sabi.

But it can be annoying sha ,especially if you're expecting a sexy outfit and then boom! Ehn! Kileleyi๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜• maternity and iya mi leko outfit. You go just weak and start calculating the cost of the fabric and transport....tears sef no go come.... Na to sleep remain.

When choosing a style,I'd advise you choose a style that will complement your stature and physique in order to avoid what I want vs what I got.

  11. I have seen a meme of Ebuka’s military outfit to be sewn for N5,000. That’s how premium tears load. Sometimes the purchaser just wants cheap service and that’s what they get.

That said, ah, some tailors can mess you up sha. For my sister’s wedding, we agreed on gold colored sheer lace (can’t place the name now) and also agreed on lining, also gold, to match the gold trimmings (not the net, which was a darker shade). I took a sample of the lining and the lace to my tailor. On the day I went to her office, my goodness! She used lining matching the net, saying she lost the sample I gave her. That spoilt the look already as the gown was darker than what I wanted. Then she gave the cloth to her apprentice and didn’t supervise. The bottom of the gown was uneven, the lining didn’t get to the hem of the gown (I expect the lining to be shorter than the lace by at most, 1 inch, this lady gave like 10 inches gap), the cut of the lining was almost zigzag, and the rubbish cut was perfectly visible beneath the lace, as the lace was sheer), the simple A-line cut I wanted for the gown didn’t turn out well and the gown didn’t drape neatly as wanted, it was an unexpected disaster. As if I wasn’t pissed off enough, my sis in University sent me a video of her in her own perfectly made dress๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ, chai! Her dress was more complicated than mine and mine should have cost at least 2 or 3 times hers, can you imagine!!!
I just went and bought lining, and asked her to dismantle and reassemble the nonsense. Last last, it was manageable for the event.

I just know that I now have tailors for different levels of clothing, and this doesn’t have to do with cost only.

  12. I have had good and bad experiences with tailors o. One ruined the dress I was to wear for my bestfriend's wedding. I had to go shop for another dress, the day of the wedding. Another, the dress she sewed eh, she took my measurement o (I was a size 8 then), what she gave me was for a size 16. And she was arguing with me, that that was what she measured. Like really๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„. The one I use now is good, tho she sef get am for body.

  13. What do you expect when you patronize local tailors or you don't patronize your friends.

    1. @EC, can you define local tailor? Why I asked is that my tailor is a classic one in my local area. She stays in a local area of Ekoro in Abule Egba, Lagos, but she's a baddass tailor, she doesn't even have a shop, she does everything in her living room, the dinning area, and I know of not less than 10 people who have been apprentices under her.

What I'm saying is if you're good at what you do, people that need your services will look for you even if you're in a remote area.

This happened to me yesterday. The materials were bought from my tailor and she had them.I was meant to pick styles. The tailor sent me some beautiful styles via WhatsApp ,I chose my styles from the pictures she sent.Madam tailor something different entirely in some. She even did same to my mum's clothes after she was paid well...I wasn't happy and I won't take my clothes to her again.

Meanwhile she was making nice clothes for me before I decided to try her with the lace o. The pepperdem I wanted to do no work because I no kukuma go the wedding again. The cloth is just sitting not so pretty inside my box.

  18. This brings back memories.. years ago after a "carpenter" spoilt my ashoebi for a friend's wedding, she just told me in simple words without apology;SISTER MAKE I ADVICE YOU, NO BE EVERY STYLE WHEN YOU SEE FOR MAGAZINE YOU YO CHOOSE. As if the style in the magazine was made by someone with 2 heads. I just left her without a word and never went back

One tailor burnt my clothes twice, she will not line your clothes, she won't whip it at all and she charges exorbitant fees on top the rubbish she sews. I have a great stature and choose style that suits me but hell no, they keep sewing nonsense. God has finally answered my prayers as I have 3 great tailors now and I let them know they are not the only one I patronize before they start feeling fly.

  22. Hehehe, just remembered another story. I asked a woman to sew skirt and blouse for me and I selected a style that included feathers in the trimmings, she gave me the magazine oo, we agreed price for everything. I went to get the completed dress and saw she didn’t use the trimmings we agreed. Madam, why? She said ‘feathers are for birds’๐Ÿ˜ฏ๐Ÿคจ. Instead she replaced the feathers with rickety flowers she must have taken from someone’s wedding cake๐Ÿ˜. I was so mad, but I couldn’t rake and she was much older. I just carried my dress like that and cut off the flowers at home. Mstewwww

When she delivered it,we were shocked to what we saw..told her to return and that was the end! She sent her son for balance,we drove him and she later came by herself.. we asked her so she has the guts to ask if balance after the rubbish she sew? Saying she will amend and bring it back, can you imagine?? We just told her we ain't interested anymore in the clothes but her balance can't be paid either

I have a good one who has been sewing for me for almost 10yrs now and I'm not ready to move away from her
