Edo Govt Declares Curfew Over Violent Protests..

The Edo State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogien said the curfew will take effect from 4:00 pm, October 19, 2020, till further notice, Channels reports.

According to him, the curfew was due to the incidents of vandalism and attacks carried out by hoodlums who hijacked the End SARS protests.

Recall that some Nigerians on Monday broke the walls of the headquarters of the Nigeria Correctional Centre (Nigeria prisons in Benin) and freed some prisoners.

Reacting, Ogie said, “This decision has become necessary because of the very disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of the End SARS protests.

“While the government of Edo State respects the rights of its citizens to undertake legitimate protests, it cannot sit idly when hoodlums have taken laws into their hands to cause mayhem on innocent citizens and the state.”

  2. I thought the governments have granted the protester's requests? Why not give them time to implement them and then you assess.
The rest of the police might be unleashed on the protesters if care is not taken.

    1. My sentiments exactly, since government agreed to meet 5out of 5 of the demands, endsars protesters should have withdrawn and gone back to the drawing board to come up with new plans. I am afraid that all the labour of this protest will be in vain.

  3. So how is breaking the prison walls to free prisoners #EndSARS?
Can we see that these protesters are doing worse than they are accusing SARS of doing?

  8. I'm not even sure those people are real prisoners gaskia, because with the videos I've seen there is no where those people looks like someone that has spent 1 week talk more of years in prison. Most of them look fresh with nice hair cuts. I even spotted one with necklace and another with travelling box. Like how now? The government should try again jor.

  13. Warders carry guns these days. were the warders sleeping or hiding when prisoners were jumping the fence. It is a clear case of insider job with the active support of the government. Benin protesters have been very peaceful, even after thugs killed two protesters last week. People know the leader of the thugs that killed the young boys, till date nothing. The police didn't arrest him. Governor Obaseki gave 24 hours to the police to arrest the killers of the protest, after that, we never heard from Obaseki again. They are desperately looking for ways to hang a bad name on the protesters.
