Imo State Gov Uzodinma Announces Panel Of Inquiry To Investigate Police Brutality In The State

The panel will be inaugurated today by 2pm prompt, at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

He says...

''We are very proud of Imo youths, the way they have spoken up alongside their contemporaries in the other parts of the country.

I am particularly happy with the manner they have conducted themselves, peacefully and orderly before, during and after the activities marking the #endsars and #ReformPoliceNG protests and also against police brutality.

To this end, we have since swung into action to effect the necessary actions around these concerns.

Following the avalanche of complaints of alleged excessive use of force by the police, corrupt practices on the part of the police and brutalities meted out on innocent Imo citizens, we have set up a panel of inquiry to investigate all these.

The panel is to identify all those who have made claims of police brutality, investigate them and make appropriate recommendations, including possible compensations and sanctions.

The panel is also to examine existing police structures in the country, including the renumeration regime and make recommendations for comprehensive reforms in the police to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

Members of the panel are:

1. Justice Duruoha Igwe Rtd chairman

2. Mr Allenbi Onyemaechi

3. Barr Chima Anozie

4. President National Youth Council of Nigeria, Imo State

5. Chief Titus Uzor

6. Chibuike Ogboma

7. Belusochukwu Nwere

8. The Chairman Christian Council of Nigeria, Imo State

9. Victor Nwachukwu

10. The President National Council of Women Society, Imo State.

11. Rep of Youths in the 3 Senatorial zones zone in the state.

12. Barr Chris Obialor - Secretary.

The panel will be inaugurated today by 2pm prompt, at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

- Sen. Hope Uzodimma
