Adventures Of Oko Ashawo The Uber Driver - 54

Texting and driving is one of the most hazardous forms of distracted driving. 

Sometime last year, I was on my way to pick up a client in the afternoon when I noticed that the lady driving on the next lane beside me was text-driving. School children were also crossing the road at the junction ahead of us .....

I slowed down but noticed that the lady was engrossed with her phone as she drove. In a flash, a boy of about 9 years ran across the road and this woman hit him with her car. For a moment, I thought I was watching a movie as I saw the boy up in the air before he landed on the bonnet of her car. 


The woman quickly dropped her phone, parked her car and ran out to carry the poor boy. I also quickly parked my car to offer her assistance. Immediately, we drove to the nearest Hospital and luckily, the boy was not badly injured. 

I learnt my lessons that day and for a long time, I didn’t text and drive until recently when I got distracted. After church service last Sunday, I got a girl’s number. The girl fine die and I promised to keep in touch. 


I was driving in the evening, same day I met her when her chats came in. I replied immediately even though I could have delayed my responses since I was driving. I was in traffic as I chatted with her. The chats were getting really interesting and I forgot for a while that I was driving. The next thing I heard was a bang. I had hit the vehicle in front of me.

I came down and checked the damage. The bumper of the other car was scratched and slightly dented while nothing happened to my car. I begged the owner of the car that we should leave the road so as not to cause further obstructions. The guy had just collected his car from the painter the previous day after body work. I also started calculating how much I’d part with for repairs. 

Luckily, the guy was really understanding and told me not to worry about fixing his car since his painter will just do some minor adjustments. Chai … see wetin fine girl cause. Abeg, na to focus remain so o.

Accidents happen all the time because of people who drive and chat,some have even lost their lives.......I hope you read this and stop that bad habit...

Hmmmm oko ashawo i wonder how people even do it...I do not use my phone when driving cos i get dizzy but i see people who do it so perfectly that i wonder if there is a school that teaches people how to do this.....Na wah!
