It's good to know that there's reward for honesty.

Its either you are honest or dishonest. If you like be looking for what you can gain, you are dishonest.

ReplyDeleteIf he did not return the cheque, it would have been useless to him.
ReplyDeleteHe could also have turned it in at the bank and he wouldn't have gotten anything as compensation. His efforts of tracking down the owner of the cheque is a whole lot and he deserves everything given to him as the reward. Also, him being a credible person at the job given to him is the reason a lot of families and homeless people will be getting helps.
So much to learn from this man 👌

ReplyDeleteAre we not speculating about the value of his honesty? He was rewarded for his honesty in returning the cheque. The woman who rewarded him knew the value of that honesty to her.
ReplyDeleteIn most places in the world, a criminal can cash a cheque with efforts.
Okay, let me join the speculation: What if the woman would have found it hard to explain, for example to her client, that she could still be trusted to keep a cheque. What if, what ifs....
Let us not lose the moral of the story: Honesty pays, and still do even in Nigeria.
So i got robbed a few years ago. My mum whose number was on my drivers license got a call saying they found it on the floor. I was so sure it was the robber that was trying to get money off me so i arranged police to follow me. They waited around the corner as i walked up to this guy. I called, he came out and gave me the license. I stretched some money to him saying "oga help me manage this" he said "Never". I asked why and he said, i dont need anything from you, i just thought id spare you the stress of going to get police report, affidavit and all that. My heart melted. I asked him to join me for lunch, he said he was having a busy afternoon but he is grateful. So i saved his no and we chat from time to time.
DeleteHe taught me a lesson, honesty can never be a result of wanting something in return, thats business. Honesty is when you want to spare the next man of undue discomfort. No amount of money compares, it just sticks in your soul and inspires you to pay it forward somewhere else.
