Former PRTT Boss Maina Tells Court He Has No Case To Answer....

Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), on Wednesday, told the Federal High Court, Abuja, that he had no case to answer in the allegations levied against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Maina, told Justice Okon Abang shortly after the EFCC, through its counsel, Farouk Abdullah, closed its case, that he would be filing a no-case submission.

The former Pensions Reform boss, through his lawyer, Anayo Adibe, made his intention known shortly after he cross examined the ninth prosecution witness (PW9), Rouqquaya Ibrahim, an EFCC investigator.

Justice Abang adjourned the matter until Friday (Dec. 11) for counsel to defendant, Adobe, to address the court orally and for the prosecution counsel, Abdullah, to respond to the no-case submission.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Maina (1st defendant) was arraigned before Justice Abang, on Oct. 25, 2019, by the EFCC alongside his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd.

Maina is facing 12-counts bordering on money laundering up to the tune of N2 billion but he had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

  1. Only in Nigeria that govt officials indicted for crime do not answer to it. How can he plead not guilty when obviously he is that is why he dressed like a woman and wanted to absconded.

    1. Pleaded not guilty but ran away.

That your tumbi go burst and we go recover the money.

  2. Please lawyers in the house, what is the meaning of ' No case submission ' ?

    1. In criminal matters, when the prosecution closes it's case, the defendant if he is satisfied that he has no case to answer based on the evidence/testimonies of the prosecution witnesses will tell the court that he does not have a case to answer, more like he's innocent of the charges against him and that the prosecution has failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

On the 11th, Justice Abang can either rule that the no case submission succeeds and he's discharged but not acquitted as the case can be re opened at anytime or he would rule that he has a case to answer going by the evidence and then, Maina will testify in his defence.

The courts in this instance will be very careful not to form an opinion or deliver judgement but a very short and straight to the point ruling.

I hope this answers your question.

  3. If you knew you had no case to answer why did you run away?🙄

  4. Why will he have case to answer, when those who arrested him and other government officials are all thieves including the judge asking him.

They know themselves. Time will tell on all of them

  5. How can he have case to answer?. Are we no more in Nigeria?. Carry on bros. Na niaja be this. Anything can be swept under the carpet. Snake can swallow money. BH members can be rewarded with monthly allowance. Abeg brag about it. Nothing dey happen.
