Labour Room Drama 297....

WOW....Easy like Sunday morning...........

Hi Stella, Labour room drama has been one of my favourite posts on this blog since you created the column but fear dey always hold me when reading. Lol

So, I got pregnant and found out after about 6 weeks. First trimester, I felt like going back to naija as na only Mama put and street food dey hungry me. We just relocated and was still not used to the food here. If not for COVID travel restrictions, maybe I would have gone back to spend one month just to satisfy my cravings. Pregnancy was smooth but backpain did me shege no be small.

Fast forward to the day, I just went to pee in the afternoon and saw very little blood on the toilet paper. So, I told hubby to take me to the hospital so that I can get checked. I wasn't expecting the baby that day as I learnt first timers usually surpass 40 weeks, here I was at 38 weeks plus 6 days.

I was checked by the nurses and they said I was 3cm gone. I was like how come because I wasn't feeling pain at all. I was asked to take a walk round the hospital for an hour and come back. I took a walk while playing praise songs on my phone for an hour, I came back and was checked again, the nurse said I was about 5cm and then I was transferred to the delivery room. The nurse was still asking me to be sure I was okay since I wasn't feeling any pain. She even asked if I can walk or if I preffered to be wheeled. I said I was okay. See me bouncing to delivery room like a don. In my mind, I was like this thing easy now.
2.5 hours later, I was still on 5 cm. So the doctor asked them to give me oxytocin to speed things up, so I told them to let me eat first. I balanced well and ate rice that hubby brought. After eating, I was given oxytocin, the oxytocin was added to my infusion so I didn't feel the action immediately, I was still pressing phone.

After about an hour, I started feeling slight pain and I was given laughing gas to inhale whenever I feel the pain. It worked. After some time, I felt a strong contraction and real pain, then the water broke.

Then heavy pain descended, at this point, laughing gas no reach. I told the nurse that I needed epidural, I couldn't hold the pain. Chai, it was out of this world o. She called the anesthesiologist and he administered the epidural, infact to get my back still for the epidural was trouble.

After the epidural, the pain went away but I could feel pressure with each contraction, so whenever I feel pressure, I tell the nurses so they can time my contractions. The time between each contraction was less than, 2 minutes apart immediately after the epidural. After 2 or 3 contractions, the nurse checked and I was 10cm. She was surprised, she had to tell another nurse to confirm. After the epidural, in less than 10 minutes, I was fully dilated. So the doctor came and pushing began, they'll count 1 to 10, I will push. So they started telling me they can see the baby's head and he is so hairy. Lol, I think that was to encourage me to push more. After about 15 to 20 minutes, my cute little boy came out early the next morning at 39 weeks with head truly full of hair.

I am so thankful for this experience. I pray for all women praying for this miracle that they have it soon in Jesus name.

Thanks Stella for this wonderful platform to share our story.

  9. Mine twins delivery was just like this but mine was that my water broke at the midnight and I called my mom and she said we should go to the hospital but I was expecting the pain I do see during ante natal but I wasn't feeling pain so I went to the hospital and the nurse said am not in labour because of am in pain I won't be standing this way or dressed in fitted gown, I then told her my water broke since 12:30am then she said I should go for scan I and hubby went to lab and we were told the water has reduced, we decided to go to the other hospital I registered and after about 20 mins I was attended to because I was busy watching film so my mom came to join us and doctor said am okay I don't look like someone in labour then my mom insisted he should check me that this is her way of labour, doctor checked me and said I am now in 7cm and the doctor said I should be taken to labour room while I and the nurses were discussing minutes later the pain started coming then my son came first and my daughter came few minutes later.
