ACF Calls For Halt On Embargo And Blockade Of Foodstuff From North To South....

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed concern over the decision of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers to halt movements of food items from the North to the South.

The ACF made the observation in a statement issued by its National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbe, and made it available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Ogbe said the action of the union would only complicate the socio-economic and political challenges facing the country.

“There is no need mounting a blockade by one section of the country against the other. We believe that whatever may be the difficulties of their members in operating in other parts of the country, ACF leadership led by me is willing to help solve them,”

He noted that Nigeria was not at war and therefore, such drastic action was unnecessary. “This extreme measure is not progressive and even counter-productive. “We, therefore, call on the leadership of the union to put a halt to their embargo and blockade in the interest of peace and unity of the country.”

    1. The truth is that the North was supplying about 20% of foodstuff to the Southern part..Those sustaining Nigeria are the Middle Belt - Benue most especially..Our produce taste different from those of the North as the Northerners use more fertilizers but if you notice their tomatoes and pepper spoils on time compare with produce from the south and their peppers are usually big but not so peppery..If you want real spicy pepper, it comes from Ondo State..Garden eggs come from the North cos the breed produced in South is bitter...

Even the Niger, Cameron and Chad joined together has no purchasing power compared to the North...However our Southern leaders need to be pro-active than reactive...Southern region should be self-sustaining and should conveniently feed themselves...Invest more in farming and animal husbandry in terms of ranching...

    2. Your head dey there !!!
I don't know why our southern governors won't go into ranching business!!! Honestly every area can actually feed themselves very well. Start ranching, let's start rearing these cows after all land dey , well well. Lots of youths are ready to work.

  3. It’s so sad that these Northerners always go to the extreme to make their points. They can’t even afford to buy the food they are hoarding.A basket of onions they sell in the South for 35,000 is sold for 7,000 in the North. The day they begin to reason like humans will be the beginning of great things for Nigeria as a whole.

    1. If it were the southerners that pulled this stubbornness, the Federal troops would have been sent to order them to supply the foods with dispatch or face prosecution

    2. They should squeeze the onions and make onions juice and drink

  4. The same people who halted food stuffs in less than one week started crying of losses in money. Are they really okay? Mad people everywhere. They thought the south will starve if they do that. I put it to them that they will cry more when the South finally goes into farming. This should be an eye opener to the people of the southern region.

    1. This is an eye opener. All lazy youth in the other part of Nigeria should turn their talent to farming now. Things will get better in Nigeria. We don't need the North to progress abeg.

  6. Clear case of Joro to Joro. You people started it, thinking that it was going to stand as a threat to us but it seems you've all realized that you all were only planning on how to deal with yourselves and not us like you previously thought? Lol. Just how many days and hunger don dey deal with una due to lack of cash? The earlier y'all understand that Nigeria does not revolve around you guys the better for you all of you.

  7. Shebi they are still the ones crying. Let them continue to block. Everyone living in Nigeria is a survivor.

  12. Please, they should block ooooo.....infact we are grateful; This their rubbish attitude don reach!!! We use to use certain tomatoes(like they are nayurally lined,we use to that to know seasons and all) This will make us look at farming as another form of making money and putting foods on our tables.
We too will block the flow of crude oil na? Everyone hold ya side:at least we trade with that as well as use it for our own development.
Eubbish and nonsense rolled together to produce this administration.

  13. I can eat eba and soup all year round, besides I can plant my vegetables at my backyard every plant I need. Please keep your food. I have my small farm of poultry and rabbits as well as fish.
Business opportunity for me to start cattle rearing.

They should keep their food very well. Thank God, God no be man! They would have cut the oxygen from the rest of others not to breathe or they would have stopped the rains and sun to shine on the other parts of the country.

So because people eat meat, then they should be killed by herdsmen, their farms destroyed and their wives raped? Please they should keep their food stuff.
People should learn to know their boundaries and tolerate others.

  15. Now they can see we clearly need each other, not like we weren't paying for the food. Hausas that don't eat stew suddenly want to hoard pepper, tomatoes and onions. Wonderment!!! #spotremover#

  16. This is the beginning of their suffering. They should continue with the blockade please. At least the south will take Farming seriously going forward.

70% of the so-called produce are sold in the south by the northerners. It's double loss for them - farmers will lose and the traders will lose too.

People die in the north daily, killed by their own people, nothing has been done.

  17. The west/south should grow their own produce so that we are sure of what we are eating.

  18. I honestly did not notice this tantrum cos hubby came back from a trip last week so i have a pantry full of foodstuff...honestly we can get more foodstuff from the middle belt region sef and even the south here we go dey alright. na una go taya las las
