Reality Star Arin Says She Knew Nigerians Would Judge Her for Her Looks After Biggie Evicted Her

Arin Olowoporoku, one of the housemates who were evicted from the Big Brother Naija show last Sunday has said that even before she went for the show, she knew that people would judge her based on her appearance, particularly the piercings on different parts of her body.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, she said, “I definitely did not expect to win. I feel like I know Nigerians enough and I knew they were going to judge me. However, I did not know they were going to ‘villain-ise’ me as much as they did but I definitely knew they were going to judge me. But, I envisaged that I would spend about five or seven weeks in the competition. I left earlier than I expected to leave though but many of the things did not surprise me at all.”

Asked why she expected to be judged, she said, “Of course, (because of) my face and how I look. I am a woman, skinny and dark-skinned. Also, I am very vocal, opinionated and fierce. I have piercings on my face and I’m very expressive.

People don’t usually expect that from women, so I knew I was going to be judged. Until people have personal interactions with me, I am a conundrum to them. They don’t understand me but when they come closer, their views of me change.”

But imagine to hate or detest someone because of their look?
To not even care about their values of character because their looks do not fit an established precept we consider acceptable.

So just because of those rings? Im sure it was more than than.

Nigerians will prefer those unwashed looking, emptyheaded, hippopotamus buttocked individuals because really that's what they can relate to.

      Average attracts average.

    2. Anon 15:20,

You are a hypocrite and you would have made sense if not for the nonsense you wrote towards the end. You also did what you’re accusing others of by insulting the heavily backside endowed housemates. Next time pass your message across with decorum.

    1. What people do not understand is that you can actually wear nose rings without piercings.

  9. Well, she said the truth here because I for one never liked seeing her face with those rings on it. Maybe she should try and reduce the number. It irritates me a lot. But I still like her personality regardless.

  13. The problem is Nigerians are too set in their ways and they judge people based on unnecessary things like looks, tribes etc. I am not a fan of rings or whatever but if that makes her feel good and happy, who are we to judge her? I love ankle chains and I dared not wear it in Nigeria because n'a ashawo dey wear am. The lady is good and accomplished in what she does but nobody is talking about that! Tboss had/rings, she is pretty with them both people still didn't like her. It is their body! In the ancient times, people adorned themselves with rings, jewelries very massively so what is the problem?

  14. It's you judging yourself first going by your words up there you already feel there is something wrong with your looks and by extension feel others will judge you. So, you and the people are correct.

  15. Most Nigerians are sad and incapable of loving themselves; how do u expect them to love you when they are brought up with survival, competition and judgement? Just do you.

  16. That Naija for you, always having opinion on how you should live your life SMH

  17. Dress the way you want to be addressed. Whether you like it or not, you may be very intelligent, kind and a lot of other good qualities but the average person would give attention to someone who dresses and grooms herself appropriately even if that person has less good qualities. It is only when people give you an opportunity that's when they'll know you. And sadly, in our fast paced world, people don't have that time to give you to prove your good qualities today. Imagine losing out of opportunities just because you stubbornly refuse to groom yourself well.
