    2. I went to a convent sch. Was supposed to b a Nun.
Hse wear was China white pinafore, 1st thing teenagers were thot was Menstrual flow and Hygiene,50% of our teachers r Rev. Sister, there Nun habit is White, from head to toe, only odd colour in there attire is Glasses and d Rosary.
It happened we were asked to bring 2 big extra white towels, 2small transparent buckets, 4 bottles of Beach. During the lecture day, we took d towels, needles white thread and scissors along.
We were made to cut this towels in piece and sew, taking the measurements of Ur pant lining.
The sister tot us how to use towels as sanitary pads, how to 1st wash b4 soaking it in bleach, did i try it,yes but the must disgusting and irritating sight. I dropped it and went back to lady sept.
I meet a friend in 2019, she sews, woman to woman discussion,I asked for a sanitary towel, she asked what for😳,for period babes, she said, she has Never used one of those😳, I asked what she uses? Tampon? She said no pieces of clothes from clothes she cuts, my mind flashed back to 2009 secondary sch days,I quickly ended that discussion.
The Rev. Sisters claimed is very Hygienic because u iron and fold .
Wen my baby stopped using pampers, I had like 3 cartoons unopened, a friend saw it and asked if am selling I said no, I will dash to any woman with a baby, she said give me I will use, how she sha showed me how to use pampers as substitute to Heavey flow. It works

    4. Never used rags. I had a maid once. The only thing she knew was rags, had to buy pad and thought her to to use, dispose and keep her general hygiene. My daughter is 12 now, though she has not started, but already teaching her the ropes.

    5. God forbid. Rags ke

    6. Some times, it has nothing to do with money o! Some days you would be forced to go buy towels because of too much Flow. I spent money on towels than pads because I don't like repeating towels unless I have the strength to iron them, if not na New ones o.
I'm tired of wasting money on different kind of pads. They will tell you that and this is good for heavy flow, you go rush go buy, same old same old! In fact, my tiredness is tired already.😢

    7. Apple of Gods eye, use maxi pampers,I don forget that local but popular 1 name
How to use it, use ordinary pad on ur pant 1st, wear d pant, place d pampers close to d pant and wear a tight fitted jeans on. Tight fitted no stains nothing

  2. Rags ke, haba.

I hate sanitary towels, i prefer my virony pad biko.
Who wan use rag unless u will wash it thoroughly and keep it neat, then it can't be tagged rag but a piece of cloth.

    1. I doubt anyone uses rag though.

Could be piece of clothe but definitely not rag.

  3. Rags ke? Oh dear! The situation of the country is heartbreaking but still rag is a no-no..that's like inviting infections to oneself

This is what I do most times, when I buy toiletries,I already have tampons,so I buy pads and panty liners in bulk that will take me for several months..so Incase I'm not buoyant when the period comes,I won't be stranded

    1. But tampons is not advisable to the little of my knowledge.

    2. I think Stella means pieces of clothes people wash and reuse and not 'rags' so to say.
Stella pads go for around 700 naira for a piece of 14 or thereabout now.

  4. As I'm typing now,na rag I dey use. I have heavy flow, and I tend to use like 5 pads a day, and I can't afford it,so I cut plenty rags, and I change it often ,soak and wash with hypo. And I'm very clean, na condition make crayfish bend o. That was what we were using before pads become popular

So long as you keep your 'clothes' that you use clean, no shaking.
God will surely make a way soon for you.

    4. Hi. May our economy get better. Do you mind seeing a gynaecologist for your heavy flow? You can get prescriptions to lighten your flow as well as an idea of the reason for your flow. Cheers!

    5. Rather than using "rags", why not try using baby diapers for heavy flow? It works like magic.

      Delete
    6. How will u put?

      Delete
    7. Anon you mean how to put? diapers
Open the Pampers and wear it over your privates, let it cover where pads use to cover, then wear pant on top of it. If you want to urinate, remember to hold it in place so it doesn't fall off when you bend

  5. I can't feel comfortable using rags/clothes, I'm sticking to sanitary towels. God will keep providing.

  6. I don't know why you called it rags. For me, becos my flow is usually extremely heavy on days 2 and 3, i have what is supposed to be a kitchen napkins. After i place the pad on my undies and wear, i fold my napkin to the shape of pad and put under the undies before putting on my 'tight'. This is how i survive being stained on days 2 and 3 when i have to go to the office. Even when i use 'pampers', i still support with my napkins because if i dont, the flow will always look for a way to get me stained from the sides. Days 2 and 3 for me are 'horrible days'.

    2. So sorry about your heavy flow.

    3. Jeeez😭😭 really horrible. I used to have this kind of heavy flow before I had my kid. I almost used 2 packs of mini sanitary pad packs per month (that's like 14pcs) for a flow of 3 days. Terrible.

Now I use just between 6-8 pcs cause it's no longer that heavy. I hope you get over this phase.

    4. Ladies, these heavy flows aren’t supposed to be. You need to see a good gynecologist to find out why. Please don’t continue to suffer monthly. Mine was caused by a bad birth control med that FDA has taken out of the market now. Find out if it’s something else. Polyps or fibroids, hormones, certain IUDs, using Ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin like medications and blood thinners, endometriosis, bleeding disorders or more. It seems it’s more common among us black women between 30 and 45 as I notice in many folks. See your gynecologist. The maxi Always Pads are made such that you don’t need more than 4/6 daily. I went through it that’s why I can advise younger women to seek help. It’s not normal to need more than a certain number of Always Maxi per day, more than a few days monthly.

  7. What do you term rags? Cause I know some people that prefer to use cloth during their monthly, new wrappers bought by them and cut into pieces ,they dispose off after useage.
The question that should be asked, is how safe are the sanitary pads in circulation? To avoid story that touches, I use cotton wool during my monthly( mind you I usually have heavy flow) .

    ReplyDelete

    1. Exactly. There are special period cloth/fabrics sold in the UK for those who decide not to use pads.

Sanitary pads from the established companies are considered safe before they have gone through a quality assurance process. Our people may be making fake ones though, very possible.

Cotton wool, how absorbent would that be? Plus, the comfort.

    2. Honestly, the sanitary pads in circulation now are nothing to write home about. Look at always, i dont know what they are still doing in the market. How can you make pads as flat as flat can be and expect it to hold blood for hours. Haba. DryLove got into the market and was doing well, only for them to begin to misbehave recently. I bought moped 16in1 the other day and it was a waste of money for my heavy flow. Maybe i should go back to ladycare.

    3. Your second paragraph reminds me of the comments I read on SP the other day where some ladies were complaining about the pads, some said their flow increased when they used pads compared to pieces of cloth while the reverse is the case for some ladies, their heavy flow days reduces with pads

  8. This is sad. But what is new, poor women all over the world have been struggling with the financial demands of dealing with a period for decades. There are natural things from nature that can be used, but we have disconnected ourselves so much we no longer get inspiration from God on these matters.

  9. Biko sanitary pad all day everyday.

  10. I use pads sometimes BUT, I also use napkins.
In fact I prefer napkins, after washing the napkins, I use bleach to rinse it.After each month, I iron and Keep it for the next month.
..my napkins are white cotton towel fabric..

  11. I use tissue paper on the second day because of heavy Flow. I prefer it I work and sit for hours

  12. May God continue to provide for us. I get irritated easily on those days so anything not sanitary pads won't work.

Any lady using clothes because they can't afford to get sanitary pads, mehn I'm so sorry you have to go through that. Wish I can help you.😭😭

    ReplyDelete
  13. Rags ke. Situation never reach like that . Sanitary pad all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Let me suggest eh ladies, if you don't have a steady source of income (like a monthly salary) where you can plan all you want to buy on a list, whenever you have small money just buy your sanitary pads ahead and keep.

There are the economy packs they sell now for N100, N130 and co, buy it bit by bit ahead so that day don't come on you suddenly and then you have to use clothes.. God will continue to provide.💜💜💜

  15. Me na napkin I dey use, after I go wash, ironed and keep for next month, things had for me now, no pretence abeg😎😎

  16. Sincerely ladycare does it for me. Tried using towel cos of my heavy flow but the issue i have is that of washing and using again. It irritates me and hubby avoids me like....during periods. So i just double my pads and hit the road.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Abeg lie small small. How can you double pad? You can only use one pad at a time

      Delete
    2. Anon 18:49, Don’t be quick to call people liars, I double my pad. I use Poise or always night no 6 and I double it by putting a smaller pad on top before I put tissue. I bleed heavily due to fibroid.

  17. My sanitary pad is ok for me,l don't think I will be comfortable on sanitary napkin..

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm considering using the towels as I read above. The pads are so flat and I use two packs plus cottonwood.🤔

    ReplyDelete
  19. I actually use those white baby napkins not because economic reasons though. I heard it is a lot healthier than sanitary towels, that sanitary towels cost fibroids, cancers etc. The campaigner also advocates against the use of roll on, deodorants, iron bras, lubricants for sex and co

    1. I have been hearing about pads causing fibroids plus cancer lately. I think it is all these new pads that we see nowadays

    2. How can we not use roll on and deodorant? What about perfumes? Can we use perfumes?
Abeg o, make people no come dey smell like local male goat with "body odour" (in Stella's voice)
      🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  20. I used white towel, cut into pieces and washed with hot water and hypo every month after use. Each time i use pad, i usually feel itchy in my private part.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think government should stop their import charges on pads and diapers. Buying pads by children in late primary and secondary schools in the rural areas is problematic. Most of the girls do not go to school during their periods

    ReplyDelete
  22. It is well with us o!
Honestly the quality of sanitary pads nowadays as reduce. I still use sanitary pads (molped better than always) but on my heavy flow days,I use pad and tissue paper. If not i will just embarrass myself. I can't stand the sight of rags cos I easily get irritated when I'm on.

May the Almighty bless us all

  23. I just wrote epistle on menstrual cups and it got deleted. Abeg I don tire.
Long story short, get menstrual cups at 2500 and save yourself the stress of buying pads for the next 3years. Easy to maintain, no allergies or reaction.

  24. My mum has always used rags. She’s not even Nigerian but she’s old school and that is what she grew up using. I remember seeing them. She saw her period into her 60’s.
