Ooni Of Ife's Ex-wife Queen Zaynab Says Divorcing Him Wasn't An Easy Decision

Queen Zaynab, former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi has opened up about her divorce from the monarch and how it shaped her current work.

In an interview with Vogue Arabia, she said, “To be the first queen out of Africa to end my marriage with a king — interesting to hear that that’s considered a thing. It wasn’t easy to summon the courage for such a decision. I wanted to stand for what I believed in.

“My epiphany came at a moment during my separation from the King. I talked to myself, deciding to uplift all those who are downtrodden.”

On her namesake foundation founded in 2019, which is aimed at helping women achieve financial independence, offering young girls scholarships, and helping domestic abuse victims, she said, "I want to uplift all those who are downtrodden.”

  1. Na wa o!!
I wonder what’s going through her mind.
I used to think she’s a lucky girl but she does not look happy. Keep your head up. Love will find you again. By the way, can she remarry again??

    2. How do you mean she does not look happy? You are the ones who thinks to have a husband is the ultimate happiness. She is a self sufficient woman, and guess what she can clinch any proper money bag better than the former husband. 1st of all this girl is not a slowpo, she knows how to get another man, if you know her.

    3. She can marry and remarry as many times as she wants. When lord lugard and his boys were berthing their ships and clearing evil forests to construct roads and offices, taking over Africa, where were all the mammy water, gods and ancestors? It is when they realized that Africa had its own mythology that they decided to send for the excess population of religious fanatics who were constituting a nuisance in Britain to come and replace our mythology with their own stories. It made a lot of sense: they avoided raising taxes directly to fund the welfare state of people who were educated but decided not to contribute to the economy in the name of religious beliefs. With tagging them as missionaries and loading them on ships, the working class financed then directly in the name of charity, donations missions etc and still paid their taxes. See Sense! None of the Reverend sisters skilled at making holy communion wafers, wine or even normal beer was ever exported o, just the lazy ones who prayed ten times a day or the ones who could handle children- they were never paid by the church for doing what housewives did for free.

If there was any jazz preventing people from going near these women (ex-queens), how come the same kings of old had to castrate the males working in the palace? The jazz no reach? What of the one that sent his wife to Abiola and baba put her in the family way One time? One day, they will send Stella info about the alaafin's ex wives. Awon iyen ti da igboro ru.

  6. I actually like the fact that she keeps wearing white. It says a lot about how seriously she took the mantle of Olori! But she looks very different facially as if she had work done on her face I can't put my finger on it but she's still pretty. Well done Queen!

    2. She has reduced the bleaching! Why is she adding Queen to her name? She doesn't want to be married to the king yet she still use Queen title?

      Delete
    3. I have known her for a long time. She doesn't bleach. Her mother was very fair, and she got her color from her mum. So stop saying she bleached her skin.

  14. There are thousands of kings in Nigeria, mostly with multiple wives so why use the Queen title forever after divorce? Queen Wurs zaynab of which oba? We don’t have a monarchy, we have a federal system? And many Obas, Igwes, Emirs. Vogue and all these international magazines like Forbes won’t hire Nigerians but spread misinformation around.

  15. Zaynab Wura you are NOT the first Olori to leave an Oba!!! Not at all. Vogue Arabia do your research!

    1. Exactly! There are thousands of kings’ wives who have left their marriages even in this our Nigeria. The King of Eswatini (Swaziland) has like 2 or 3 that have left him, waaay before you even thought of marrying the Ooni.
