Club Owner Obi Cubana Reportedly Invited By The EFCC For Interrogation Over Money Laundering Allegations

Popular socialite and businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana, has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for interrogation over money laundering allegations.

According to Punch.ng, the Anambra-born club owner, arrived the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja, at about noon on Monday November 1,2021 and was  interrogated by operatives of the commission.

Though allegations against the socialite were sketchy as of press time, a source disclosed that his case borders on alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

The source said, “Obi Cubana was arrested and brought to the EFCC headquarters on Monday afternoon over allegations of money laundering and tax fraud. He is being grilled by detectives as we speak.”

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said he has yet to be briefed on the development.

The lavish display of wealth set tongues wagging with many Nigerians wondering about his source of wealth.....

  5. I saw it coming. I knew they will go for him. I'm not against EFCC investigating anyone but why don't we get to see or read politicians being arrested or grilled this way. If He's guilty, then let him answer for it and again the fight against corruption shouldn't be a tribal thing. We hardly see EFCC flex muscles when it's someone from the northern region. Just recently, we are reading plans are underway to reinstate the police tailor contractor back to his office even when it's glaring that FBI indicted hum with solid evidence. The same way for the past five years we haven't seen any Boko Haram or bandits/herdsmen being prosecuted in any law court through out Nigeria whereas thousands of Igbo youths are languishing in jails awaiting trials. With this, some idiots will still open the gutter they called mouth to talk about one Nigeria. Let Nigeria misfortune befall them and their household.

  7. When we start questioning people's source of money in this country ,then we will do better as a nation. Just make the mistake of saying "how did he or she even come about her money" , attack from left right and centre. "hater, vanity crew, assistant Jesus ,poverty mentality, go and make your own money will be thrown at you from every corner. It's a pity we worship money and materials things so much so that we do no longer care how the money was made.

    1. Anon @ 08:46, thank you! This is not haters blahs blah... In the abroad, if your wealth does not match your income and other investments, you will be investigated. This is why they are far far ahead of Africa. Before Nigeria can move ahead we individual need to check our self for greedyness, corruption etc.... Before we think about the government too.

    2. But why the selective investigation into wealth? That my issue.real justice has to be seem to be fair and this is not so in nigeria.Depending on where you are from? That's selective justice!

      Delete
    3. Question the source of wealth should be a general idea hung not selective to tribe. When the Arewa kids displayed theirs automobiles during the last sallah in Abuja, did anyone come out to interrogate and question them 😒😏 People and double standards.

    5. Varey B you hit the nail on the head. It should not be selective investigation. Let the rule apply to everyone. If your source of wealth doesn’t match your legitimate income and investments, then you should be investigated regardless of who you are or where you are from. I believe that is what most people have a problem with.

  11. It's good to always lie low and not display wealth and riches. On the contrary, I don't know if he could have done otherwise by having a low profile considering the type of business he's into.

Meanwhile, our big time thieves (polithiefians) go scot-free. Their radar only goes to perceived enemies and once they cross to their party, their sins are forgiven (FFK and co comes to mind).

I wish Obi Cubana well and hopefully, his hands are clean too.

  12. With the way they displayed during his mother's burial and the fact his from the east not the north, I knew it was just a matter of time . I feel for him to have displayed and allow the display of wealth during that time either means two things. Either 1;he has clean money OR 2;he is laundering money for very powerful pple and nothing will eventually happen.na today?

Cubana is not his alone..he has so many partners and investors..
All those burial money are gathered from his friends!..
This is a business gone wrong with someone!...

  17. I will look at it this way: The Anambra elections are coming up this Saturday. Could it be he is on the way of certain power players that want to do the doables towards this election? More drama unfolding as the Anambra elections are coming close...

Anyway the invitation that does not mean that he did what they are accusing him of, he should just clear his name...However I will advise that he tones down his show of affluence on social media and stop being everywhere at the same time...He needs to be very very careful....

  18. Yusuf Buhari a jobless youth shared iPhone 13s and the latest iPads on his lavish and very expensive wedding day.

No said anything to his father who is championing "anti corruption" slogan.

The man recieved 200 cows from his friends for his generosity to them and others he is now under EFCC radar.

  28. The country Nigeria wasn’t built or founded for young people to thrive that’s why the moment they do,the govt moves against them.they won’t investigate why someone is broke but will raise their shoulders when he becomes rich.I will keep advising people,if you are able to,pls leave Nigeria but don’t leave empty handed.leave with a budding career, handwork, education or just anything you know how to do well.
