Couch Convo - Should Crooner Davido Pay Tithe From The N200 Million Gifted Him?

Popular Naija Crooner Davido was gifted Over N200 million by friends and fans last week and he announced that the money would go to charities across Nigeria....

Should he pay tithe of 10 percent from the total money to any Church? or don't you believe in tithes?

  1. If he wants to pay tithe, his choice. He should not be compelled to do that.

    1. Tithe is not for Christians and not even for the present day Jews. Tithe is for the male descendants from the tribe of Levi. They were given that authority by God to receive tithes because they were the only tribe God did not give land and trade as part of their inheritance among the 12 tribes. But God then charged the remaining 11 tribes to give 10% of their yield to the 12th tribe that is a linage of priests so that there will be food in his house and for their up keep. The tribe of Levi are strictly priests, they do not farm nor trade.

The tribe of Levi has since gone extinct and NO MAN ALIVE IS AUTHORISED TO RECIEVE TITHE. Same way no man alive today is under any law to pay tithe.

    3. Sapphire, since I read you comment in the morning I hv been researching. And you are very correct. I have my regrets but God will reward my pastors in their own coin if they intentionally misled us for their own gain.

  2. Stella, you dey find trouble but to answer your question since he's giving it all out no need. However pastor's go say, gift which the donation is classed under is an increase and therefore should be thithed.

  3. I think we need to learn to understand the intent behind the commandments God gives us. Paying tithe is not about being legalistic, the spirit of the law is to provide for those less able. Pls let's not bring up controversy for controversy sake.

  9. Orphans are part of those that the law of tithing as set us defined should
    benefit from the tithes;
Deut. 14:28At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: 29And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the STRANGER, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come,
and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
    See also Deut. 26:12-15, Matt. 23:23, 25: 31-46, Acts 6:1-6, 1 Timothy 5:3-9

  10. No, there is no need for that.

Davido, needs to give his life to Christ first before his gifts are of a heavenly value.
YOu can't lodge monies in a bank you do not have an account in; can you?

  12. Christianity in Nigeria is a scam. Business ventures not only for themselves but they have also secured the futures of their children. Take a look at the biggest churches in Naija. Their sons are on the board of directors. Nigerians Wake up!!!!!!!!

  13. Giving everything back to charity is like tithe on its own.

People should stop confusing the issue of tithe. Jesus represents the new Testament, did He talked about tithe? He clearly mentioned about giving, giving and helping the needy and the rest.

I think the issue of tithe should come naturally from within, not by force.

When talking or preaching,a rich member of the church will be referred to as "my son, my daughter" but a not so rich will be referred to as"a church member"

  18. Giving it out to those orphanages and motherless baby's homes, is a better way to pay his tithe with this money.
It's all about connecting with the universe, what better way than showing this much profound kindness to humanity?

  19. Yes o...we should pay tithe to Profit, gift, gain we earn.

  20. He has already given all the money for Charity now, nothing to pay Tithe for. Beside Tithe was instituted by God for 4 class of people, the priest, the Orphans, the Widows and strangers. So he has used all the money as Tithe

  21. If I hear say he pay tithe I fit trace am go flog am.

  22. He's used up all the money, 100%, to pay tithe already by giving the money to orphanage homes. Orphans are listed as those we can give our tithes to. Levite's, which represents the pastors of the present day are also listed.

Whether church, orphanage homes, strangers, widows......10% or more to this group is acceptable to God as paying tithe.

  23. It's amazing how many some pastors and their followers ignore the fact that the tithe arrangement was under the law of Moses. Tithe was what was given to the Levites because they were assigned to work full time in the temple and they were not given lands the way the other Israelites tribes were given, so they could not engage in secular work or business to get money.

When Jesus died, he ended this law and brought the law of the Christ. That is why when the apostles and older men were deliberating whether to make it a law for all Christians to be circumcised (a law under the law of Moses), they sent this message to all Christians: "That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well." . (Acts 15:28, 29, in fact read the entire Acts 15 for clarity). Even Apostle Paul who was a missionary sometimes worked as a tent maker to support himself (Acts 18:1-3) and was unwilling to make himself a burden to others (1 Thess 2:5-9). So when his christian brothers gave to him, he was grateful, not entitled to their money as these pastors of today are.

Christians are not under the law of Moses as Jesus has abolished it, so Tithing is not a requirement for Christians (Hebrews 7:5, 18; Ephesians 2:13-15; Colossians 2:13, 14). Rather, this is the kind of giving encouraged for Christians, "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." - 2 Corinthians 9:7

So, don't allow people who claim to be men of God to deceive you. God notices giving that comes from your heart. If you desire to give 1/10th of your earnings, that is fine because it is what you WANT to do. Not because one pastor is threatening you that you must give tithe if you want God's blessing. You really think we can pay for God's blessings? No amount of money can do that. Tithe is not a requirement for Christians. Seriously, study the Bible and make sure what you are being told is the truth.

So to answer your question, Stella. The answer is no. The money was a gift which he intends to use for charity - to help the less fortunate. That is part of worship as James 1:27 says "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."

  24. DOES DAVIDO ATTEND CHURCH?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Even if he attends church nko? All the tithes these god of men have been collecting since i came into existence, what are they doing with it? Enrich themselves, build schools that the children of the poor members amongst them can't afford to attend, buy private jets, send their kids abroad, buy securities to be securing them against their church members, especially the poor ones? There's no better tithe than what David has done biko,i'm sure he knows that his fans will disown him if he ever thought about tithing any part of that money. Ndi pastors should sort themselves out while David sorts the kids in the orphanage homes out, every big money must not revolve around pastors and politicians in this country.

    2. Chisom have you taken time to go to the smaller congregations in your neighborhood to see how tough it is for these men of God to survive?

You seem to only base your conclusions on the big wigs in the ministry forgetting that it’s not only about them. If you don’t pay tithe that’s on you but stop making those that do look foolish.
