Couch Convo - When Religion Interferes..

Please read this post carefully and discuss...
Some people are scaring off others with the way they go about practicing their religion..

DOCTOR REFUSED TO LET THE CHILD DIE.

The Supreme Court in TEGA ESABUNOR & ANOR. VS. DR. TUNDE FAWEYA & 4 ORS (2019) 7 N. W. L. R, PART. 1671, P. 316 @ PP. 340, PARAS. C-G, 344, PARA. C, 347, PARAS. D-E laid this quagmire to rest.

In the aforementioned case, the 2nd Appellant who is a member of JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES CHRISTIAN sect gave birth to little Tega on the 19th April, 1997, at the Chevron Clinic, Lekki Peninsula, Lagos State.

On 11th May, 1997, within a month of his birth, her son fell gravely ill and was taken back to Chevron Clinic. Dr. Tunde Faweya immediately commenced treatment and after administering several medications, the child had poor colour, was convulsing and having difficulty in breathing. Upon proper diagnosis, it was discovered that the child urgently needed BLOOD TRANSFUSION to stay alive.

Surprisingly, the mother and father of the dying child objected to the blood transfusion because their religious belief required them to abstain from blood transfusion.

The Doctor however, did not agree with the parents. He promptly incidented the matter to the Nigeria Police Force on the strength of which the Police filed a Motion ex-parte before the Magistrate Court pursuant to sections 27(1) and 30 of the Children and Young Persons Law, Cap. 25, Laws of Lagos State, 1994, for an order that the Hospital be allowed to do all and anything necessary for the protection of the life and health of the Child and same was granted.

Armed with the Order, the Child was taken away from the parents and the blood transfusion was carried out. After he became well, he was handed over to the parents.

Being irked by the decision of the doctor to carryout the blood transfusion against their wish, the mother filed an action in Court against the doctor, hospital, Commissioner of Police and even the Magistrate that granted the order was made a party. The matter was dismissed both at the High Court and Court of Appeal.

In further dismissing the appeal, the Supreme Court held thus :

"All adult persons have the inalienable right to make any choice they may decide to make and assume the consequences. Accordingly, an adult person who is conscious and in full control of his mental capacity, and is of sound mind has the right to either accept or refuse medical treatment, including blood transfusion. In such case, the hospital has no choice but to respect the person's wishes. However, different considerations apply to a child because a child is incapable of making decisions for himself and the law is duty bound to protect such a child from abuse of his rights even by the child's parents.

So, when a competent parent or person in loco parentis refuses medical treatment or blood transfusion for a child on religious grounds, the Court should step in.... These considerations outweigh whatever religious belief the parent of the child may have about any form of medical treatment because the child may grow up to reject his parent's religious beliefs............. "

So many innocent children have lost their lives because of the decisions of their parents hinged on religious beliefs.

Please save the lives of millions of children who are being deprived of medical treatment by their parents on the basis of their religious beliefs, by sharing this post to help enlighten our Doctors and Police.

Please if you are a Jehovah's Witness, quote where the Bible says you should let people die rather than take blood.. which Bible do you people use?
Please note that this is not a call out post, We just want to understand some things... I am so scared of making friends with Jehovah's witnesses and that's not right.

  3. You claim to be following the teachings of Jesus Christ but rather let an innocent little child die than allow him blood transfusion to save his life. Is this what Jesus would do? What would Jesus do?

  6. Because the bible said do not eat blood. As far as JW is concerned, when you are sick and cannot be fed thru the mouth, it is carried out through drips (intravenous); so that simply imply that when a person is receiving blood, that the person is eating blood. They may also have other reasons which I do not know. I am not a JW and do not agree with their assertion.

    2. Hope is not Christianity though.
Blame religion doctrines that misinterprets the message in the Bible.
Religious fanatics can do anything so far the pastor says so.

  8. I was made to practice religion for the first 18 years of my life and all it brought was sorrows. I did not have peace and I was a dirty sinner.
Until one day when I met a person; Jesus and he changed me and set me free from sin and religious dos.
Knowing that the guilt of sin is gone is the greatest gift one can have. It comes with the joy of salvation; joy unspeakable; unfathomable joy.
I am a saved sinner; the worst kind of sinner. I am an ex-sinner, saved by Grace.
    😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
What God in the Scripture (Lev. 17:10, Acts 15:29) is against is "eating of any blood" (eating = ingestion by mouth)

    6. @18:09
So "abstain" from sexual immorality in Act 15:29 also means "not to take sexual immorality" by mouth right?
Why didn't you also quote Lev. 17:10, you jumped that one to refer to the quotation in Acts only right?
      🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  12. Hello Stella Dimoko Korkus and everyone.
I did some research and found these bible verses.

Acts 15:29 reads: "to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols, FROM BLOOD, from what is strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you CAREFULLY keep yourself from these things, you will prosper. Good health to you!"

Obedience to God Almighty is not only when it is convenient for us. We don't want to be selective when it comes to obeying his commandments. God demands total obedience/exclusive devotion from us.

    Have a good day everyone.

    1. In English back in secondary school, we learnt what's called subject matter of a sentence and I think generally that passage says abstain from things sacrificed to idols during which the people drank blood, ate strangled uncooked meat, performed orgies and so on. To take that passage so literal means to abstain from oneself since we are flesh and blood and scientifically, each time you brush you bleed and ingest said blood.
Neither Christianity nor religion is the problem. The problem is man because we are strong headed and hard hearted. We claim righteous and suffer the very fate we try to preach against. It's no wonder the Bible says the measure you judge with will be the same to judge you

Wonders shall never end, this crazy doctrine is not practiced only by Jw,there is another church my husband told me of also,I can't remember the name he told me of a similar story as well but this time it was the man's brother that took the poor child to the hospital for treatment and the eventual transfusion. I swear some people are just mere followers and not true child of God

  14. This judgement was once posted on this blog a few years ago and JW members on the blog commented and quoted Bible verses to support their doctrine. Other bvs who had encounters with them also commented
