For someone who has built houses in many places in the world , are we sure this man did not know that something was wrong somewhere and yet he carried on with the project?

    2. My points exactly yesterday!! Meanwhile, COREN and NSE are both silent ob this matter, they have not issued a statement since the unfortunate incident. Some folks were misunderstanding my stance. You will be shocked Mr.Osibona is just a front for the actual owner of the highrise. The owner is a lagos big boy politician based in Abuja with lots of connects to the seat of power. Lets wait till things start to unfold. Who gave the go ahead for work to continue even when it was not supposed to??

I saw a letter from the firm handling the project that resigned due to some unethical stuff going on there. God rest his soul and others departed souls and comfort the bereaved.

A plot amongst the 3plots was later sold to the VP behind closed doors,"THEY" tried everything possible 2years back to take over the house,no way, they blew up some old buildings in Lagos metropolis and enacted a law that ANY BUILDING THAT FALLS,THE DEBRIS WILL BE CLEARED BY LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT AND THE LAND TAKEN OVER BY THE STATE.
      This is where they're going.

BTW Chief AAd Ojo of Elizade Toyota Motors has issued a press statement that he didn't sell any plot on second deliberations to the VP. Nobody should call his name in the event unfolding.

Mark Morgan, you're intelligent man. Thanks for the heads up.

    18. Young grandma, the other people who also perished: labourers,
a food hawker and her 9 year old daughter, visitors, friends, corps members also died due to Femi's determination to be penny wise, pound foolish.

Should we romanticize Hitler's actions because he is dead? Should we continue to dismiss the mass murder of fellow human beings just because they are poor and seeking honest work? Imagine the pain of all the parents and siblings of these people. Imagine the deep wounds their deaths will cause their children before trying to shield the memory of the rich man who signed their death warrant.

Femi may have had a good number of successful projects but it is clear from the quality of the rubble in that building and the letter written by the Prowess engineering firm that he joined the Romans in building with "naija sense", cutting corners and he paid for it. For a Nigerian firm to hands off from your project due to concerns about quality, it shows that Femi had no personal values or integrity. He came to Nigeria and proved he is more Nigerian than most in terms of 419. The buck stops with him as the builder of that project.

This is the same thing TB Joshua did but unfortunately, he waited a few years before going to join the 110 people he murdered with his greed. Talk true. It won't kill you.

And truth be told, it is better the fatal incident happened now when the building was still under construction. The death toll would have been in hundreds if the building had been completed and rented out for office use.

May God help us in this country.

    2. Good heart I agree with you..first of all let us follow the building code..I learnt we have one but yet to be passed by the Senate....Lagos State Government should have a list of approved certified construction companies, at least 10 of them for any building exceeding 5 floors...

Also basic HSE should be in place...How can you have such people in the building and there was no manifest...One can't ascertain how many people were in the building

    3. If trully he was fronting for a big wig as alleged, is it possible there was a sabotage to get at the former?

4 Is there a possibilty an explosive was present in the building?

  35. This reminds me of the grenfell towers fire incident in the uk where substandard materials were used and this caused the fire to spread faster. The fire fighters couldn't control the fire because the materials used were highly combustible and substandard, the cheapest of the cheap which should never be used.

Here we go again, a developer who has done projects in the Uk,South Africa and the USA, a seasoned one who should know better and knows the consequences of cutting corners, who should place life over money, who should do the right thing or take a walk with his head up high, who should never bow to pressure from whoever!! 37. Condolences to all families who lost their members in this sad incident. May Almighty Jehovah assuage your grief and leave you all only with the best memories of your loved ones.

On the incident, it is better to wait and close mark the investigation than to speculate.

Someone said above that Nigeria happened to the man. I agree. It happened to the man and the project. But I may disagree on how it happened to him and the project.

By news, he has built before in Nigeria though not at this size and height.

Will come to build a several billion Naira project and self sabotage by shoddy materials?

Anybody who has built a simple sandcrete block fence in Nigeria, not even a bungalow or one storey building knows who we are as Nigerians - ever ready to cheat a project owner.

Where the owner insists on standards and quality materials/job, he/she is told lesser is enough. Any further insisting means he/she has money to waste = more stealing but still lesser quality of work and materials.

Typical Nigerian supplier will pass lesser quantity and quality materials for same price as the best.

What about workers? Ever ready to do less or take away.

And just one or four pillars with the wrong materials and shoddy workmanship can bring down any multi-level project.

This is why Nigerians (suppliers and workmen) are handled firmly at big project work sites usually under the supervision of lesser or equally qualifed foreigners. If handled by a Nigerian, they see that person as wicked (a.k.a. he/she nor want make we chop). They "go home" for him or her. But inferiority complex and self knowledge prevents them from going home for a foreigner.

I don't know this man. This is not in defence of anyone. It is based on my experience in dealing with my fellow Nigerians on projects. As a people, the majority of Nigerians are ... Sadly, it is now known to most of the world.

Oh, by the way, I am a Nigerian.

    May Almighty God help us.
