The Adventures Of Oko Ashawo The Uber Driver - 103

Hmmm Oko Ashawo abeg clear!!!

It still baffles me when I see women who insist on remaining in abusive marriages.

I know a particular young woman who has really suffered from all forms of abuse from her husband. I met her when I took her on a ride to the hospital to treat some wounds on her face.

At that time she still had 2 children (a boy and a girl). I advised her then to separate from her husband before he kills her since it was a regular occurrence. She eventually went to stay with her mother in Abeokuta for a while and even changed the school of the young children.

I kept in touch with her for a while and I noticed that she was gradually turning me to her “saviour" by regularly asking for advice and borrowing money (urgent 2k things) and mostly didn’t return the money.

Sometime later, she told me she had settled with her husband and they are back together again. At that point, I had to distance myself from her before people start thinking that we were dating.

The next time I saw her, she was pregnant for the third child and according to her, the physical abuse has increased this time. She told me she didn’t plan on getting pregnant again but it happened when they made up.

She said she moved in with the guy when she got pregnant with her first child and the guy feels he was coerced to marry her even when he was not ready. Till today, the guy blames her for his financial woes saying she tied him down. I didn’t even have words for her but encouraged her that things will surely get better.

Now, she has started turning me to her saviour again by regularly asking for advice and money. Just last week, she asked me to borrow her 10k which she would return in 2 days. I told her I didn’t have that much but she said that even if it is just 5k, it will go a long way.

Anyway, I sent her 5k and till now, she has not paid back. To me, that money I sent her is “goodbye money” and hopefully, she won’t come to disturb me again. I cannot be carrying someone’s burden when I have my own personal issues to grapple with.

Hmmm Oko Ashawo take am easy, dont shut her out.....
Encourage her to leave because Domestic Violence does not end well....
I can never forget how i was so emotionally involved with BV Flora's domestic violence and the shock i felt when she went back after all the beatings......
I pray she is Ok  (Flora please send me a mail if you are OK)

  4. Do not mercy for them because they don't deserve it. They feel comfortable with their abuser.

  6. I think religion also plays a big role in some of these cases. Pastors preaching against divorce, there is no issue God cannot reconcile they will say. The stigma of being a divorcee in Nigeria is really bad.

  7. One thing I have noticed is that for every "beast man" that abuses a woman,
    The woman submitted herself to him;
by giving sexual favors etc. thinking that the beast will be pacified.
Sex fuels the ego and the inner beast in a beast. If ladies will close their legs, the power of the control will be gone and the beasts will be tamed.

  10. I think you have tried your best for her, distance yourself or rather block her because when you invest your emotions with people like that, they draw you into sharing their pains.
I once met Bv Flora at one other BVs house here in Abuja a month before she got married, she was a beautiful soul, but marriage happened.
So sad,i pray she is okay wherever she is.

  12. Domestic violence doesn't end well ooo, it's better you come out and people point @ you and talk within themselves, than they point @ the lady's grave and say "if she has known, she would have left". I'm glad I left mine, it was disastrous, beatings with no food...hmm, in all God is faithful.
