Lawyer Sends Memo To Nigerian Women

This is a must read, especially if you are married to or plan to marry a traditional ruler or a man under customary law...

The Memo says....

''Dear Women, under the Nigerian Legal System, when you marry a traditional ruler or marry a man under Customary Law, please be informed that there is what we call "presumption of polygamy" (the law sees and treats your marriage as if it were polygamous by nature) and that even when the man has chosen not to exercise his right of marrying more than one, he reserves the right to so do at will. Volenti non fit injuria. Let me also shock you that even when you are married under the Statute, marrying another woman no longer constitutes a crime under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

You really need to talk to your lawyer about these things''.

    1. It appears that... Northern women have more success than southern women in the institution called marriage..I don't know but this monogamy thing is not working for a lot of southern brothers hence the HIGH divorce rate that we see these days... Something aint right. Can we all give this polygamy a quick try and see the result. Presently, a lot of southern women are unhappy in their marriage and a lot young marriages are ending in divorce.. We are all in trouble..Or maybe the north don't put their business out there.. Right now, northern women appears happy.. I could be wrong tho

    2. You don't hear much about Northern divorce because it's soooo common and remarrying is so easy like change of clothess. Divorce in the North needs no fact. Once a man says it 3 times, it's in effect and the woman must marry another man, get divorced b4 her former husband can remarry her. That's where you see women remarried 5 or 6 times in the cause of a life time. It's no big deal like it is in the south. And remember, northern women can't freely seek divorce as southern women can. It's only a man that has the ultimate right to quit a marriage. If a woman must seek divorce, 95% of the time she is denied unless she is from a prominent family.

    3. @14:59.Northern marriages are not better than Southern marriages, in fact, Southern marriages are better.
Marriages in the North is about religion, class, wealth, power and matchmaking (serious matchmaking). There are more killings, cheating, abuses and violence in the marriages in the North compare to South. The problem with Southern marriages is that, they use more of social media's and couples threaten and express themselves more openly, due to their exposure.

Northern ladies don't cheat like their counterparts in the South and North Central but they suffer more, due to religion and family ties.

I have lived in the North for several years, Northern guys practice more sex fetish practices, drugs and gayism , which most of their ladies are not comfortable with but unfortunately, they cant talk...Seeeeeexxxx in South and North Central is saner than Kano and Abuja.

    5. Ahh my brother
      Let me burst your bubble
Divorce is so common and exciting in the north that a woman can be married to a poor man today and a rich man the next week...there's hardly any discrimination. So na we go enjoy 🤣

Northern women are enjoying, all a man has to do is give you saki three times and boom another man can wife you.

  4. But she clearly stated it's not just because of the other queen she left. No matter how hard they try to paint this, it is clear for all to see that Ooni is not who he claims to be.

  5. I don't think Naomi packed out because of other women. Her statement clearly said that the persona the Ooni shows the public is different to what he is in private. The previous Oloris allegedly whispered about DV. That is usually a catalyst for packing out. Let us see how this plays out. As for the new one whose marriage was not announced but is busy announcing herself with photoshoot up and down, sorry is her name.

  6. Where there is no law, there is no offence. Are the Ooni's wives misinformed about their roles towards the Ooni. The wives of the Late Oba Sijuade and other Kings needs to educate these women who act as if royalty is a competition for public embarrassment.

Stop using SM to make a fool out of its people and its office.

    1. See how you conveniently left out the Ooni himself, so it's the women (FYI 3 different women) that are to blame for not knowing their roles?! You too reason am. Misinformed ko, misandry ni.

  9. Naija law keeps shocking me. Even when you do court wedding and your husband just does introduction with another woman (introduction like not even traditional marriage) the marriage is recognised.

In Nigeria, customary, Sharia and marriage under the statue are recognised, church wedding isn't recognised so to make your church wedding recognised you do court.

    1. Stop misinforming people please. Church wedding is recognized, if the church is a registered place of worship. With the certificate, you don't need court marriage again

    2. Wrong. If the church is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, your marriage is recognised. I'm married to a Lawyer, and we had a church wedding, not court. Marriage certificate recognised both home and abroad. Its been 20 years now. Thank God.
BTW,why is everyone shaming Naomi for trying to be free.
Kabiyesi is a dog,Naomi and her family members are thieves.!!! Awon oju o rola ri gbogbo.
      Well matched duo.

  10. I've different versions to this story since it was made public and from what the outgoing Olori wrote I'm not sure she's against him taking another wife. From the narration of the 2 outgoing Oloris, i'm beginning to reason with what the mother of his daughter said after he claimed that he was there throughout since the daughter was birthed. But whatever is the case, both parties knows what the real issues are.

  11. Wura was out there protesting against DV, for most women with self respect that's where the line is drawn. Except in rare cases where it was a justifiable reaction or self defense most will leave.

We don't know Naomi's reasons , she shouldn't have been in that setting in the first place.
