Court Jails Former Minister For Money Laundering And Includes An Option Of Fine...

A Federal High Court sitting in Jos on Tuesday February 22, 2022 sentenced Sarah Ochekpe a former Minister of Water Resources to three months imprisonment.

Ochekpe, who served as Minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was sentenced alongside a former chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, Raymond Dabo, and the Plateau state Coordinator of Jonathan Campaign Organization, Leo-Sunday Jitong.

The three accused persons had been standing trial since 2018 in a case of money laundering and conspiracy brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission amounting to over N450 million.

The sentence however was announced with an option of N1,000,000 (N1m) fine.

  7. See why this country won't move forward.. The big thieves keep getting a slap on the wrist and walks away scot free.
The hopeless thief is locked up and the keys thrown away and forgotten.

You see how justice ⚖ and equity is distributed unevenly in this country by the disreputable judgment..

  9. Even the three months jail term isn't enough, then they embarrase us further by saying one million naira fine. That's just the kids' weekly allowance and won't make any difference. This goes to encourage others to commit as much crime as they could because the punishment is acceptable. Well...what do I really know? Money has been transferred from one account to another and the constitution was changed temporarily to favour the criminal.
