It was learnt that the medical doctor identified as Efe Ovueni was suspended for three months over unprofessional conduct by hugging and blowing a kiss at his co-worker without her consent.
.
The doctor was also fined $3,000 and is liable for the undisclosed cost of the hearing and investigation. With the fine and suspension which takes immediate effect.
Ovueni has been banned from medical practice for over 90 days.
From Punch on Instagram.
Oh my God....what is all these?
ReplyDeleteHugging and blowing a kiss without her consent is a bad act but I suspect there is a fowl play
No,its turkey play bro
DeleteThat's sexual harassment.
DeleteWhen you join an organization, read the policies. Asides from that, read about the country you are working in.
Do your research. Everything is not foul play.
You can't keep making your female colleagues uncomfortable. I know it's rampant in Nigeria but it is wrong. Females just don't want to be objectified. They want to be recognized for their intelligence and what they bring to the table.
KING XOXO MYSTERY
No be only fowl play na tolotolo play o. Okare Olabisi.
DeleteMc if you like go abroad and be pressing nyansh and talking sex talk in the office. They will put you squarely where you belong. That's why there is a Nigerian male on EVERY SEX OFFENDER list in the world. Go to Google and fetch the info by yourselves.
DeleteUna be like dogs, always on heat with zero self control. Dirty things.
Anon12:09. D matter no strong reach as you take am.
DeleteThe matter here is that a Nigerian man breached his work place rule and the rules of his profession.
And he was DESERVEDLY. sanctioned
There is no condemnation of all Nigerian men in the post.
Your last paragraph was unnecessary.
Not all Nigerian men are as described by you.
There are Nigerian men who are very professional and even "over" professional in their dealings with both male and female colleagues. Apologies if you have not met or work with any. You will soon.
How can you say it's sexual harassment, haba?
DeleteThere's definitely more to it.
I'm a female surgical Nav and sometimes we hug our colleagues and it depends on the level of friendship, some people blow you kiss.
Maybe he was set up 🤷🏽♀️.
Hmmmmmmnnnn
Delete16:53 kwantinu ooo🙄
Delete11:23 please, be gracious enough to correct without mockery.
DeleteThere's always room to learn.
Mc Pinky it's *foul* play.
Very unprofessional, not even in a working place. Sick humans everywhere.
DeleteUnlike Nigeria, Where people even can do and undo
ReplyDeleteKiss wey we dey blow anyhow for naija, na im Canada dey para put like this.
ReplyDeleteYes. Abroad keep your hands and mouth to yourself and giving people personal space is key. When u travel you study the culture and do as they do. Those ones don't even allow their family members touch them anyhow. U first ask and study the kind of person and the intimacy of the relationship b4 proceeding to touch them. If he had asked her out n she agreed that would be a different story. But she obviously didnt wanna be touched by her coworker
DeleteIt is wrong anywhere. That women don't speak up or the law does nothing doesn't make it right. When I worked in in Nigeria most of my male colleagues were professional and respectful except this one guy who talks anyhow to women and will still want to touch you inappropriately without consent. Of course we ladies fought him back and put him in his place. The men were mostly silent. Imagine what someone like that will do to his subordinates. What is wrong is wrong. It's pride that makes so many Nig men unteachable. The wise ones change and learn.
DeleteWhich one ben hug someone 4 times. It is only creepy men that do that, what is the reason for the hug if not that maybe the creep want to tap current
DeleteSome countries that the law actually works, I think the punishment is extreme being a first timer(except he has done it before and was warned), I hope it isn't racism
ReplyDeleteNot every damn thing is racism, respect yourself and keep in your lane, why hug and blow a kiss when I ain't dating you!
DeleteAs in, in office make colleague will be calling you sweetheart, my dear etc. People seriously need TRAINING on how to relate with COLLEAGUES in an official setting.
DeletePreferably during on boarding and EVERY QUARTER because some people are just DAFT for no just cause.
That was how one idiot was calling me my former wife, it was so disgusting because prior to when I was single this guy didn't for once ask me out. Immediately I got married boom my former wife started flying up and down. I cautioned him severally to stop baba felt he was doing me a favour. He latter got married and kept saying the same rubbish especially when people are around. One day I sent him a message asking him how he will feel if someone says that to his wife. Stupid guy flared up and was like I should not mention his wife. I gave him the warning of his life, ohoo so u want uphold your wife and tarnished someone else wife I warned him and told him to back off bro after all we are just colleague not even friends. He ganged up against me with some other colleague not to talk me omo i carried my face and face front nd work. We are only colleagues and not related. Thank God my office relationship no pass the company gate. Nigeria men have a lot to learn regarding boundaries to women. I always put people in their place when they bring that manly mentality to me. NO is NO and please mind your boundaries.
Delete14:50 So glad you put the numbskull in his place.
DeleteHow disgusting, 'my former wife' bawo?? In an office?? as in they will carry their village mentality be doing Lord and Master in corporate settings, trying to do subdue female colleagues in the office.
Will you geddifok with your crocodile skin and tattered holes in socks! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Me I will warn you from the very first time, I no dey take rubbish oh. About respecting boundaries, We were told never to address patients by any nick name like dear, sweetheart, darling. Yet some of my colleagues including the white people still do that. I find them demeaning and patronizing and would never use such on patients. You can be respectful and friendly without addressing a person as dear or darling etc. It annoys the hell outa me. My acquaintance seems to have recently come across that word dear and that's all I hear now. It annoys me no be small.you know my name and you use to call me mommy so and so which is still okay but this new dear is annoying. I know she is trying to mellow and learn communication cos she use to be overly aggressive even when it is not warranted. I feared for her career and still overlooked and introduced to a big organization, I know they will train her like they did us and she will grow too so everything will not always be fight. But I'm sure they are not the one that taught her to be calling everyone dear.hope some sees it and corrects her as that person won't be me.
DeleteServes him right, dem no dey know who to joke with.
ReplyDeleteThis will reset his brain sharp, I'm just happy the suspension is for 3 months and not permanent.
Well, I may be wrong, but I guess the lady must have cautioned him about his 'affectionate ways'.
ReplyDeleteLessons learnt!
Thank goodness that his license was not revoked.
Like I said, lessons learnt.
To wave person for abroad now sef fit be crime.......na wa o.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmm. Did he read the HR package? Always read and understand your HR package and what is considered harrassmment and sexual harrasmment in your organization. Never be so excited for your job that you overlook those. Things are different in every country and you must make yourself socially aware. At the level of a physician you are expected to even be more vigilant because your ability to work is more stringent than many other industries.
ReplyDeleteHe learnt the hard way.. Keep your hands to yourself, you say NO. You think is Nigeria where sexual harassment mostly go unpunished.
ReplyDeleteLovelace
His village people may be beckoning...
DeleteNa wa oooooooo
ReplyDeleteNext time he will behave well. Foolishness
ReplyDeleteI went to do a contract job in another state and asked this akata receptionist if she could show me around, this babe told their manager that I asked her out and it almost cost me my contract.never again
ReplyDeleteHow would you ask a receptionist to show you around though? That's not her job, someone else would have been designated for that. You were too forward.
DeleteShe was the only young person there, the others were old women.
Delete🤣🤣🤣🤣 So the 'old women', they can't walk?
DeleteWere they using wheelchairs?
Is it the receptionist's duty to show a new staff around?
You don't know what HR is for, you needed someone to show you around, why didnt you ask your Manager/Supervisor?
Is this your first job?
You graduated this year ba?
Some of you are beyond hilarious.
Village people are not after you.
You are your own village people.
You still have a lot to learn. From your writeup you referred to her as 'this babe'.. if you have truly unlearned Nigerian ways then it should be 'this lady'. And if it is not her job description then she shouldn't show you around cos she doesn't work for you. Its not Nigeria where receptionist is also office househelp. Besides in my own abroad their job title is office assistant, office associate or office manager.. never receptionist. I don't know why most of you are too prideful to learn and change.
DeletePlease what is akata?
DeleteAnon@11:30 God bless you for that comment!! You have said it all. When you live abroad keep your hands and mouth to yourself. Even if a lady gives you green light to date abeg ask her the real age or ask her to show you her ID card because if you think that by her size she looks mature but in the real sense she is underage sorry is your name you go just take style go prison! Here you will see a 15yr girl looking like 21yrs because of food they eat. I used to talk to my son everyday ooo. No go make mistake touch or kiss without permission ooo. You go just go prison ooo.
ReplyDeleteThat's how it is supposed to be.You don't do such things without consent.
DeleteHe think say na Naija wey dem Dey press breast then when the woman complains others will say na so man be. E good for am!!
ReplyDeleteThat's what the whole feminism thing is all about. Women are very strategic. You give them one and they keep shouting until they get two. They get two and they don't relent in making noise until they get three. This goes on and on until they have totally emasculated men using the same men! Small thing, a man has lost his job or is in jail. Funny enough he's jailed by his fellow men! How much more stupid can men get? That's why I have no space for them in my office. They bring confusion. Come and see tranquility in my office. Nobody is saying anybody is harassing them. Nobody is jamming people's head because they have breast and pussy.
ReplyDeleteMen should keep encouraging this until people wey we strong pass in all ramifications go enslave us. Shame on all the men enabling this anomaly.
Wetin this one dey talk?
DeleteMr Ceasar, please cease to be foolish abeg. It's a new year and you're already sounding like a broken record. Your mentality needs a total overhaul. Smh.
DeleteNeesolah
who do you like this ceasar???
DeleteLolll 14:36 ignore, na just one of the Male clowns here that entertain us.
DeleteNo be you again?? Not surprised. Ko
DeleteChai!! Somebody will still marry this one o!! Kai!!!
DeleteMr Ceaser this your talk no follow abeg! Wetin you read up there, sometimes pause before you press your keyboard for phone. Ah Ah dem dey talk about sexual harassment you dey yarn off point. Why is that women are seen as sexual objects or toys because we have pussy and boobs?? Go sit down jare. Always yarning dust even when the truth stares you in the face!
ReplyDelete🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DeleteMr Ceaser you are a misogynistic person. Google is your friend. You think MEN are more superior to women!
ReplyDeleteJehovah shamahhh, Kai . What did I just read. Cearser, I pity the lady wey go marry you. Your mentality is wack, wacky wack wack. If you like travel abroad and go an disgrace yourself dia. Don't learn. You are too vulgar and unrefined. This your pussy and boobs talk will land you in jail. You are too careless with words.. change oooo.
ReplyDeleteLolll, you will be surprised in real life na mouse. Stella's blog na where any random person fit live fairy tale life.
DeleteChai see better country where things work. Things some Nigerian men do here everyday and get away with them somebody don go disgrace his ancestors in the abroad for same thing.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone you will try such with and get away with it. There are still civilised people in Nigeria.
DeleteCeaser I take God beg you don't mistakenly go abroad with this your dark mentality oo, just stay put for your shell till your brain reset.
ReplyDeleteThe man was penalized for professional misconduct and for crossing the personal space boundaries of his colleague.
ReplyDeleteThere was a specific finding that he was not liable for sexual misconduct.
Without excusing his conduct for which he got properly punished, we should not convert the issue to one of sexual misconduct, or tar all Nigerian men or companies.
There are Nigerian companies that operate on same rules as applied to the doctor. There are Nigerian men who do not indulge or tolerate such behavior around them. So the tarring of all Nigerian companies and men here may be unfair.
It is always good to remember that humans are social beings. What happens amongst them is what is generally and socially accepted. The more a society operates on rules, the quicker some behaviors are changed.
There are some acts common in Nigerian social and work spaces today because the men and women of Nigeria in each space accept them. Women and men in those spaces act and expect certain response that a person (Nigerian or foreigner) outside those spaces will find offensive, bizarre, etc.
For example, in some Nigerian spaces today, there are unbecoming acts a man does, and all women and men present would say leave him alone what else did you expect of a man. When the unbecoming act is by a woman, a complaint, especially by a man, is also trivialized. If the complainant is an unmarried man, he is even told he complained because he was unmarried.
Again, some people are good at applying for enforcement of rules while some are not because of cultural, social, religious beliefs and background. I saw a true life story where a worker consistently harrased a co-worker verbally. The person harrased didn't report until overwhelmed and made a threat. Boom. The harraser reported the threat immediately and the co-worker harrased was dismissed. Now it was found the dismissed person didn't report because of that person's cultural and social background.
The bottom line is: where ever we are, we must know the applicable rules and those around us. Apparently, this is why it is said that "when in Rome, do as the Romans".
The company failed the victimized staff by not conducting a through investigation before dismissal!
DeleteSuch unfair punishment builds resentment and could push some to do the worst.
A report by one person is not enough to make conclusive judgement.
A company with good ethical practices should have a due process that includes investigations and disciplinary committees.
Queries, warnings, suspensions are steps taken for first offenders before dismissal except in extreme misconduct.
Well, what goes around comes around. Sooner or later, the bully or villain staff will repeat the same offensive behaviour and fall.🤷♀️
Who said racism? In recent times a CEO in McDonald's and a CEO in CNN both had to step down because of some misconduct involving the opposite sex. These are white men, multi millionaires. But they can get another CEO job.. but you doctor if your license is seized you can never practice medicine again. Always be mindful of what you stand to lose. The reason abroad especially the Americas is the way it is, is because of the law. Remove the law and it will be inhabitable cos it is a very diverse place. Living in civilized countries come at a cost - you too must be civilized, must respect the law if not you'll burn. Blowing kiss was wrong and after she told you it was too far, you talked about her cute smile. Pls keep workplace neutral. Don't see bodies, dont see beauty or ugly or who is fat or slim. Do your work and go home. This is already on your record so be careful henceforth. A word is enough for the wise.
ReplyDeleteA Nigerian medical doctor recently told me that 1 man can't rape a lady and a lady cn only be raped if she agrees,I sha insulted him and his whole family and then blocked him.....we really need to train our boys in Nigeria
ReplyDeleteSuch a stupid man, he deserves to be blocked, he's a block head.
