DeleteIt is possible. He first entered the Caribbean in 1492, first entered Jamaica in 1494. If this happened in 1504 he could have had enough contact with the Arawaks to learn enough of their language to communicate with them. The Arawaks were not only in Jamaica they were on other islands too, and the Taino ( a different group of Indigenous people) and them spoke a similar language. Not impossible given the time span.
DeleteI just wished they had stuck with their original plan, they probably would still exist today and not be extinct and barely remembered. Every time those ppl showed those colonizers kindness it ended up biting them in the behind. That's why I respect the Sentinelese tribe the most, no strangers wanted. You come you die, fck an outsider.
