  2. Go legally. Live within ur means. If u have a family and there’s provision to go with them, pls leave with them. Two sources of income from both husband and wife is better than 1. If u have to leave ur baby in a daycare to enable u to work, don’t let anyone guilt trip you about it. They will not feed that child for you. Make only responsible friends.

I repeat my first point as it is the most important to me, Go Legally!

It will take a lot to settle in, be patient.
Take it one day at a time.

  11. Lonely is real. Make some friends, work and try to live a balanced life.
If you can, go as a family if you are married. It will really help you when you both are working.
It might be hard to save as first with all the bills but keep at it, you will get the hang of it.

  13. Ensure ur paperwork/permits are accurate so u wouldn't have to always run and be afraid once u come across policemen.life in diaspora will be less worrisome if u are ready to work hard and be diligent in ur work.
Also some white are racist, they just don't like the blacks.u will have to ignore them as much as u can,cos if u don't,thereby reacting harshly towards them,u may find urself in prison for harrassment.more importantly,be prayerful.the lord will watch over u and make u prosper in all u do

  21. Don’t be so determined to do what you studied
IT and nursing or many things in medicine are the fastest ways for an immigrant to succeed. Think about them very well before you pursue accounting, economics or some other thing
    Rest and eat well
    Be careful with credit cards
Don’t take advantage of someone to get your papers
Gather money and visit Nigeria as soon as you can if you have people you love there. Don’t sit in the US and keep sending funeral money as your loved ones die. Go for that wedding , that birthday, go just because.
    Time flies

  22. Do not close the door on Nigeria if you are opportuned to leave the country, stay in touch with your family members, ex colleagues and friend back in Nigeria.
That way you keep your options open and can still fit into Nigeria a few years down the line should you decide 'the abroad' is not the life you want to continue living.
And for God's sake, do not go abroad with fake papers, the mental and physiological stress is not work it, let no one paint it green to you.

  23. I’ll leave this here. If you’re in Canada especially, note these:

    1. that you’re not in any competition with anybody, you’re running your own race!

    2. It’s better for husband and wife to work and plan together(very important), you’ll get ahead quickly.

    3. Invest in real estate, once you have a house that you live in. It’s a means to write off your taxes and get more from CRA!

    4. Add at least a certification to your degree, Canada is huge on certification than on degrees, Cos to them, that certification is what really qualify you for the job. Keep upgrading your skills. In Canada, you can be anything! I’m a director at my place if work.

    5. Before you start sending money home for a house you won’t live in, make sure you’re comfortable where you are for now. That house in the village, you only sleep there once in a year, that’s if you travel home every year. And some guys are already planning in your family to kill you over that house!

    6. Make sure you save something from your salary into RRSP/TFSA. Do it with fund managers not through the bank! Ask me how.

    7. Belong to a church/mosque community, don’t live by yourself alone! E get why.

    8. Mix with the right people! Choose your friends wisely.

    Thank you

  24. I will speak for the UK, travel legally please. Go with the right papers. Do not do fake or that using peoples papers that some people do, it is not worth it.
Do your research about jobs and get certification in that area. Do not waste your time and money just getting a degree here in the UK for the sake of it, they value work experience more and certification shows more expertise in that area. I have a friend who used just 3 days to train for the line of work he is in and not earning badly.
Do not get caught up with having a credit card because this system is so attractive to spending, they make payments so easy and before you know it you are racking up debts on your card. Do not let people at home pressure you to giving them money all the time, try have some savings...if you are not disciplined abroad all you will keep doing is buy buy buy.
Abroad is not naija, so learn to mind your business and respect people's personal space. Because some one greets you everyday does not mean you keep downloading your personal matters, especially in the workplace. oyibo fit dey greet you call you darling and my love but go still call police if you dey misbehave..lol...no i beg or my brother/sister or we are from the same village...lol..respect yourself. There are good people and bad people everywhere, just be wise...
