ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues.
Several meetings between ASUU and the federal government have ended in a deadlock.
Consequently, the federal government went to court to challenge the strike.
The government through its counsel, James Igwe prayed the court for an interlocutory injunction restraining ASUU from taking further steps as regards the strike, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The government is very wicked. Assu's demands are not unreasonable. All the money these politicians take home daily, if kept into better use this problem would be far gone.

The essence of paying union dues is not to enrich union leaders, it is to raise funds to care for workers when a labour congress declares a trade dispute. NLC fought for 30,000 minimum wage, but their workers are not paid minimum wage. NLC claims their workers are contract staff, the same NLC that picket companies that hire contract staff. Be supporting nonsense

ReplyDeleteThe only solution to the every year strike is for the federal government to grant universities absolute autonomy. University workers should be be the employees of the governing councils. There is no reason why the children in the state universities should be paying more than those in the federal universities, it is not fair. Those comparing the salaries of policians and lecturers do not read or they are just stupid. In almost all nations of the world politicians earn more than other government workers.
ReplyDeleteAre you saying that Nigerian lecturers' salaries are at par with those of their colleagues in other countries? To what extent does Nigerian government fund universities compared to the funding of universities in other countries? Comparing the Nigerian politicians' pay with those of their colleagues in other countries, is it what should be accepted? Lecturers in other countries live comfortably lives, why can our lecturers be comfortable ? Our universities are poorly funded and your politicians are stealing and earning what their colleagues in the other countries are not getting.
