DeleteThere are certain prayer points I am not comfortable with, because they are selfish and not consistent with true Christian tenets.....
ReplyDeleteWhen our son, Giovanni, started school 3 years ago, my wife will often pray for him to be above his peers and for them to always look up to him. On surface level, not bad wanting the best for your child. But dig deeper, and you'd see it's a prayer laced with selfishness. The 'Me and My Family alone should succeed' mentality.
I talked to her then, and she saw reason with me, and changed that line of prayer.
It is good that you want your child to be the best. However, it is better that you pray your child and other children do well. If God wills that your own child will top the class, let His will be done. But always GENUINELY wish others, what you wish yourself.
Humans are too preoccupied with the thought of always wanting to be better than the next man and that's why in Nigeria, we even have a generator we call "I better pass my neighbor". That's how vain we are when it comes to baseless comparisons.
We will always have the rich and poor. But if you are privileged, you should be be graceful and humble, not brash. There's a difference between wanting to help people eat, and praying that people will always beg you for food. Joseph in the Bible, was shown in a dream, that he will be greater than his brothers and they will seek his help. He didn't pray that his brothers will beg him for food. Big difference!
Praying that you become so wealthy, such that your colleagues or family members will always beg you to feed, is absolute pride and extreme selfishness.
Life is better when everyone is winning! 💯

Let's settle it once and for all. If God can trust you with something small, he will trust you with more (see Luke 16:10, 2 Corinthians 9:6-11). But his blessings come with certain conditions. Here are four to honour.
(1) Don't try to claim credit. God told the Israelites, 'You may say to yourself... "My hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the Lord...for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth...If you ever forget...you will surely be destroyed' (Deuteronomy 8:17-19 NIV).
(2) Don't forget others. The Bible commands 'those who are rich in this present world...to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds...generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves' (1 Timothy 6:17-19 NIV).
(3) Don't become arrogant. Jeremiah admonishes us, 'Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong...of their strength or the rich...of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord' (Jeremiah 9:23-24 NIV).
(4) Don't allow anything to take God's place. 'Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, "Who is the Lord"' (Proverbs 30:8-9 NIV)?
Remember, you don't own anything - you're just an administrator of God's estate and an executor of his will. It's an awesome responsibility, so make sure you do your best job.

DeleteA friend’s brother in law was kidnapped a couple of days ago and they were asking for N20 million ransom. They eventually brought it down to 3M and family has been running around to raise the money. I can’t believe my money will go towards paying kidnappers. Jesus!!!

Since u even wrote this in, u sound like you are not comfortable with it, so how hard is it to say No? Obviously, she is crossing her boundaries and violating ur personal space. Tell her No, you are not comfortable with that arrangement, and if she does not like it, she might have to go get a hotel.
