    1. The residents of Okuama who witnessed what happened in their community between Thursday and Saturday spoke with DRTV in Warri.

Two Okuama residents said that the soldiers had visited their community for a peacekeeping mission. According to the residents, the soldiers were received in the town hall, and it was all fine until they asked to take the community chiefs away.

According to these residents, who pleaded anonymity, the soldiers reacted violently when the community insisted they leave without their chiefs. They claimed that the soldiers shot at residents and many died.

“On the 14th of March, we were at home when some military officials came to our community. We welcomed them and they said that they wanted to walk around the community. They walked around the community and said that they wanted to have a peace talk at the town hall,” a male resident of Okuama said.

“They went to the town hall. The military men were entertained and welcomed. They (the soldiers) asked for the community chairman and community leaders. They sat with them and had a talk. After that, they asked the chairman and some community leaders to follow them.

“We said that they had had the peace talk with the leaders already so they should leave, but the soldiers insisted they had to take them away. The people said no.

“From there, the army turned the whole story into violence. Right there, in the community town hall, the soldiers started shooting our people there. Killed many of the young people there. People started running; some were killed instantly. Nobody expected any shooting.

“The army went and came back with more reinforcement. About twenty more people were killed immediately.”

“The army – they just changed all of a sudden and opened fire on us. Women and children died. We cannot find some of our children and our parents,” a woman from Okuama said.

“They (the soldiers) killed over 20 of our fellow residents. Some of our buildings were razed. Many residents have fled and there are even dead bodies in the bush where we have been hiding. We want the government to come to our rescue.”

These residents did not acknowledge that soldiers were killed in Okuama.

    2. This is what I have been saying, something necessitated all these. There's always a reaction from an action. Okuama people won't just kill soldiers just like that. Like I said earlier, something must have gave way.

The people killed in Okuama are they too not humans? To think women and children were killed speaks volume.

Why we condemn the perpetrators of this act, we should also condemn the military's actions as well. There shouldn't be selective judgment.

So unfortunate the military brought it upon themselves.

  3. Very sad. This is what Ipob members on social media are promoting Propaganda against the Army, sharing fake videos of the Army burning houses in Okuoma in order to garner public sympathy and stop the army from avenging the terrorist attack. Una no reach! Imagine beating someone and asking him not to cry. The Army shall rain fire and brimstone on the terrorists who carried out this senseless killing. Their supporters and anyone found wanting shall not be spared! Amen!

    1. Ipob members and their supporters on social media think otherwise. If the Army needs to burn down the whole community to make a statement, we are in support, even tho I'm sure people would have already deserted the community. A threat to our Army is a threat to all of us!

  10. Most of the video they are sharing online are fake videos. That Lt Col serve 8years in the North East fighting Boko Haram only to be kill in a peace mission. The useless community why are they even killing themselves over lands in the first place? And have refused to embrace peace? The atmosphere they created was so hostlie and deadly for the police to handle and the military that was brought in were murdered callously through ambush. If they are so good in being a community militant they should have waited for the soldiers and fight them man to man and let's see the outcome. The village elders that we're using them for illegal activities should fish them out instead of trying to change narrative online.

    1. You all get your facts right! The Nigerian Army is not telling the truth of the genocide and the heinous act, they carried out in Opuama; how they opened fire on innocent people in a town hall meeting; because they refused them taking away community leaders. Why did they set the community ablaze to cover up the genocide in Opuama? The retaliation came from the evil they perpetrated there. Why didn't they get the police informed of the dispute! A land dispute is a civil matter; no community in that axis was fighting over anything; they went there on a forceful mission! moreover; it is a land grabbing efforts gone wrong. You can't forcefully take people's ancestral lands ! Who invited them for the peace mission; when the head of the community was in the far away shores of the US???? Please let them stop this clandestine fake sympathy act. They .must come out to tell Nigerians what really happened!!! Niger Delta is not Benue, Kaduna, or the West, where they just go in and massacre people. Buhari recruited boko haram members into the Nigerian Army and these members are posted to the south and Eastern parts of Nigeria to cause Mayhem .
Let them say what happened to over 500 people women, the elderly and children in that community! Because if they continue to lie; they will have themselves to blame. Let the truth speak and the souls of innocent departed continue to hunt their killers .Please enough is enough; Let Nigeria be divided; let every region go their separate ways! No need to kill people over their own resources.

  23. Mat thier souls rest in peace. Nigeria is loosing it o, 20years ago who would have thought the gallant soldiers doing peace keeping in a community can be bombarded and killed. We need the military to take over because as far as I am concerned the Coas and Nigerian government cannot handle Nigeria. During president Obasanjo's rule who can try this one.
