This looks like an Innocent post on X but is it ? In these times that Nigerian students in the UK are crying out on the Internet that they face being thrown out of school and deported to Nigeria because they cannot pay their University fees?

  4. That's the absolute truth. University education is good, but it won't make every graduate a success.

  5. But he himself he went nahhhhhh that was what gave him the opportunity to seat at the white man's table and made him what he is today

    1. You saw through it. Would he tell all the Indians students with dreams of becoming engineers and doctors that. He is an extremely wealthy man who has benefited immensely from having an elite education, that helped to place him as the leader of a nation. He did not marry an uneducated woman either, but one with an MBA, so he speaks from a place of privilege. Whom is the intended target of his message? Because there are many fields that will always require a university degree, so whose children is he telling not to dream big. Cause this message is not for his children, so whose is it for.

  6. Go to Nkwo Nnewi in Anambra,Alaba Market in Lagos and Ariaria international in Aba.

The most successful and major importers I know there didn't go to university, only did apprenticeship, and funny enough they employed graduates from university to work for them.

Book smart, street smart and real life are all different.

Don't get it wrong;school isn't a scam!! But you don't need to be a graduate to succeed in life.

    1. Martin’s, everyone knows that the statement is true. But coming from an Oxford university and Stanford university educated man of extreme wealth it comes off as a spit in the face of students with dreams of being somebody. Also, I question the intended target audience of his message, because I do not believe it is for Indians, many of whom have used education to become a force in engineering, medicine, and technology. And where many Indians are CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. At a time where India is emerging as a superpower nation, this message is not for them.

African students should not listen to this message. When you are at the bottom and they are at the top or you lack influence they will come back and say why didn’t you educate your ppl. Nations with a well educated population thrive the best and are able to be competitive globally.

    2. @Anon 10:07, God bless you for this. Is it not the same Rishi that his heiress wife was caught not paying tax in the UK for years? You're right about the target audience jare. It's all about politics right now and to win the general election so do what he says at your peril.

    3. @Anon 10:07, I live in the UK and this message isnt aimed at your Nigerian students at all, the campaigns are here, this is aimed at their own citizens, the younger generation who would rather to University to study mickey mouse courses instead of doing apprenticeships (Which the conservaties are trying to reintroduce). What is media studies? Pottery, etc. Why go to Uni to learn such courses, rather than medicine law, accountancy, Maths etc.You get the point? Meanwhile UK universites continue to milk Nigerian students dry by offering Msc courses that will never get them a decent job in the UK!

    4. Getting an education is good but getting trained in various skills is better. Either way, when the tide shifts, your acquisitions either as a skill or formal education will come in handy.

    5. 10:37, I don’t like the message as it is, especially since he is where he is because of having a very good university education. Let him expand on it fully. He did not mention community college or vocational training in his post. Will he take his skilled trades focused message to Indian students, or will they still be encouraged to focus on engineering, medicine and technology, while everyone else get the skilled trades message?

Skills trades is necessary and I support the push to encourage young people to see a future for themselves in it. But the way that message is delivered is very important. I do not want it be where a child who dreams of being a doctor but who is black from a marginalized community is encouraged to go be an electrician instead of exhausting all avenues for that student to bring their dream to life.

    But he is something right....

  10. I dont think it is aimed at Nigerian students..the Tories want the good old apprenticeships to be the gold standard again as Universities in the UK are ripping students off by offering 'mickey mouse' degrees that will only lead them to a tesco till if they are lucky ...to learn, read loads of books on different topics, travel wide, engage, network and you will learn what the university can never teach you!

  11. Education is important !!! But it doesn't guarantee your success in life.

  12. School is not a scam, just that university degree doesn't guarantee success.

    4. Education is it.
But must it be university education for everybody?
      That's the question.
And the universal answer is no.

    5. Yes education is everything, but truthfully it must be obtained within the four walls of a university

  14. Omo! See what a PM is saying..Really uncalled for and demoralising

  15. But he talked about University, not about basic eductation, like your primary, Secondary and perhaps A levels..there are other forms of learning apart from going to University, such as travelling, apprenticeships, professional courses etc. I want to believe he meant such...but if you must go to Uinversity then please aspire to do degrees that will sure put food on your table, because some degrees are actually worthless! Nigeria, full of graduates yet must reason and speak like illiterates!

    1. Well said.
You have severally made your points.
Those days most bankers and accountants in Nigeria stopped at Class 5. Then they went for NIB or ACCA/ICAN. They gave sound advice on policies.
And nobody called us from banks that "our details are with them for updating".
When the housing boom hit Lagos, it was the MasterCraft men from our neighbouring countries who lapped up the artisanal gains.

    1. All those ppl went into business, none of them became civil servants or worked for anyone. We all know that being a business person can lead to enormous wealth. Will any of these men go to an unlicensed doctor for treatment or let an architect who did not go to university build their house?

Your 16 may be statistically insignificant if the majority of billionaires have a university degree, which I believe they do.

  20. Let him.campaign in peace. All na strategy to win election. Anybody that doesn't want university education is OK, sha do not blame anyone if you don't have uni certificate and at the same time you ain't doing well in life. This tale is for British Citizens who are interested in learning trade or apprenticeship. With the high standard of living this course can still make one successful so far you are up and doing.

  21. I think we should stop misunderstanding education. If you go to the university or you got your education through apprenticeship. It's still education. Not everyone will see the fall wall of the university before becoming successful. You can be a carpenter and still be successful than a university graduate. Please identify who you are. Know your self. Don't copy others. I might not be a prime minister but I am successful in my area of expertise

    1. You are 100% correct. Education takes different forms and your message for folks to know themselves and move in their alignment is gold. University does not guarantee success. Countries that want to be powerful must have a highly educated workforce, and in this time in history stem is where the power is. Skilled trades personnel will always be needed and the earning potential is great.
