Couple Wed Elsewhere After Church Refused To Wed Them Because They Refused Unusual Demands

This is really Nasty!
Why will a Church conduct pregnancy test for a couple and refuse to wed them if they refuse? If they are pregnant, are they not  already getting married?

Mr. Michael Obinna and his wife, Rebecca reportedly married after their wedding was abruptly cancelled by the Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2 in Aba.

The cancellation was allegedly the of the bride to spend the night with the wife of the officiating pastor and other deaconesses, where pregnancy test was also supposed to be conducted on her according to the church’s doctrine.

The failure of the couple to meet up with the set standard led to the cancellation of the wedding, to the disappointment of many guests and family members who had arrived from far and near.
In show of resilience, they managed to get another church located in the city to wed them.
The bride, Mrs Rebecca Obinna recalled that her hubby who was a new convert in the Assemblies of God Church, requested the Church to approve and conduct the wedding.
She lamented that despite following the church’s instructions, meeting their physical and material requirements, and even participating in baptismal classes, she and her husband were allegedly subjected to strict and unusual demands and conditions, many of which were not disclosed at the outset.
“To the glory of God, we were finally joined in holy matrimony. It wasn’t easy, but love won in the end,''

Their church, their rules. Few years ago, a bride in Akwanga was found to be pregnant on her wedding eve. The groom confirmed he hadn't slept with her in recent times. She later confessed the pregnancy was from an away match she did shortly before the wedding. Now imagine if the church hadn't conducted the test before the wedding.

Churches have standards please, the reason they do some of these things is not to encourage getting pregnant outside wedlock

It's either you are coming for blessing of marriage or solemnization of holy matrimony.

Blessing of marriage you have been living with a man and have kids with him, so you come to church and bless your marriage.

Solemnization of holy matrimony means you no go carry belle come church, cuz they ask you which one you are coming for?? I am an Anglican, believe me if you take in when you have indicated for solemnization of holy matrimony, YOU WILL NOT BE WEDDED.

If you no you cannot keep up with your church rules, by all means go to one of this e dey happen ministries and go and wed or you go to court

Before Assemblies of God church will accept to wed you, you must have been their member and you must have attended their 6months COMPULSORY marriage course.
Pregnancy before wedding is a capital NO in Assemblies of God’s church and a compulsory pregnancy and blood group test must be done less than 1week before wedding so they know what they were getting into. A rule is a rule.

Let me kuku complete the story.
She had actually aborted the pregnancy a couple of days before that time but the urine test came out positive, I guess the hormones were yet to adjust. They went ahead with the marriage(bride price had already been paid so they just did reception)
The marriage didnt last a year though, she saw premium shege and chopped correct beating till her parents bundled her back home.

The funniest thing is that Jesus would have wedded them without any pregnancy test. The Christ himself was born to a mother who was pregnant before marriage. Men on earth say they won’t wed you in their building if you are pregnant, but they are followers of Christ whose mother was in the exact same situation. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Adaoluchi said...

That is the doctrine of Assembles of God Church. They don't wed pregnant couple.

But that's the right thing why were they offended. Good for them that they still got married

Stella a church has its doctrine and we must abide by it.
The bible is clear on fornication and sin in general. Let us learn to uphold God's standards at all time.

Foursquare too conducts pregnancy test few days before the wedding. It was my marriage counselor that took me to their own designated clinic for the test but na u go pay sha.

I found it weird too but that’s their rule. You either follow it or u wed elsewhere

When my sister was preparing for her wedding in Angelican church, she attended marriage classes, pregnancy test was done 3 days before the wedding day at a church hospital, results was sent to the church. No where was she asked to spend the night at the vicarage

They do not refuse to wed you if you’re pregnant. All the churches I know do not refuse to wed a pregnant woman. The orthodox churches will instead call it ‘marriage blessing’

Please in all you do, don't ever compare Mother Mary that the good LORD favoured in your stupid fornication. She conceived through the help of the Holy Spirit.Stop this unholy comparison, no respect, reverence and regard for the things of GOD.A word is enough for the wise.

Christians should not conform to the world pattern and every church has laws that holds them.

The only wisest comment.Thank you for this.Imagine someone comparing how our LORD JESUS was born to those who are fornicators. This generation do not have regard and reverence for the things of GOD anymore. We know the command of GOD as regards fornication but this wokeness will lead so many to their doom.

Which exact same situation? Are we reading the same bible? Did Joseph impregnate Mary? Wasn't she a virgin which made her engraced to carry the saviour of the world. I don't think there should be a comparison here. Rules are rules. If you cannot abide by the rules, there are other options available to get married. As if organizations don't have rules they operate with. Go and break the rules of the company you work with and see if there would be no consequences for it.

Jesus’. mother didn’t fornicate pls. She didn’t wed in church either. Each church has its rules. In RCCG, you have your tests done in the approved hospital for pregnancy, genotype, hiv and other stds.
If any fails, they won’t join you.

Not only Assembly of God, my church RCCG too wont wed you if they discover you're pregnant. Why would one even want to commit fornication just few days or months to the wedding day, ko make sense rara.

Every ministry has their rules and regulations. It's not compulsory to do church wedding,if you can't abide by the strict rules and laws. In my church, you must do six months counselling and follow all the instructions before you're wedded in the church. 🙄🙄🙄

My husband told our cancellors at living faith church winners chapel that he didn't want to have a court wedding, only white wedding and traditional marriage. They dismissed the whole thing and told us to go ahead with traditional marriage only.
Adding that signing the court registry is a must if they are to wed us.

This is coming three months after we have done the three different stages of tests in the church gillead and the result sent directly to them.
We later wedded in my dad's church.

Fornication IS NOT even ACCEPTABLE before traditional marriages.
If you cannot keep your body which is God's temple Holy is it your marriage vows that you will keep?

One must no tdo church wedding Traditional marriage is acceptable before God.Your parents have officially given your hand in marriage. Traditional marriage is acceptable before God.

Anonymous said...

Yes ooo. That is AG rule. The bride knows this and was supposed to abide by it.

Anonymous said...

Wait oh, was she pregnant or she didn't want to pass the night in the place she was asked to sleep?

Anonymous said...

Jesus was not the result of sin or list but by the power of God. This is why the angel warned Joseph not to put her away so she doesn't face the consequence of sex outside marriage - death by stoning according to Mosaic law.

Abandon this demonic interpretation that exalts sin above God's standard.

For couples who miss it before their ceremony, I advise they prioritize their Christian walk and the image of the church which is God's bride. They should submit to God's standard, accept their error, repent of their sins and having shown true repentance, the church can embrace them so they don't become discouraged. They can then have the marriage blessed afterwards.

Running into the hands of congratulations of easy virtue is dangerous for a serious thing like marriage. Where does the woman think she'll find succour tomorrow if God forbid, the man stepped out, is seeking divorce or is maltreating her? Would she have hope in the kind of church that can just conduct an Instagram ceremony for strangers within an hour or one not compromising divine standards?

God is not foolish to demand the marriage bed be undefiled and to ask us to honour those in authority over of for Christ's sake. If their doctrine is not in line with the Bible, you can find another congregation but in this case, the demand for pregnancy, genotype, rhesus and blood group tests are no secret. No God ordained marriage would be held back by these results rather, it even gives the bride confidence should any challenge cause the husband to speak without faith in future.

14:49, no matter through what means mother Mary became pregnant she was pregnant before marriage. And the person who was to be the earthly father of the Christ had to be convinced to marry her and remain with her. So, there is no comparison being made, the fact stands that she was an unwed pregnant woman when she went for marriage rites, and if her pregnancy was publicly known no priest would have married them in a religious wedding.

Too many of you only see sin, not redemption and not mercy. No only when trouble comes along for some, we see them running up and down lamenting the wickedness of people and the world, when in their times of peace they sowed no mercy, forgiveness or redemption. They wanted to reap where they had not sown. Some will learn devastating lessons because of their hard hearts.

Let ppl marry if there is a baby on the way. It is nobody’s place to deny parents the opportunity to marry, even the crooked things can be made straight with time, and God can use anybody’s life as a testimony. The history of Christ’s parents has set the precedent for all. Give ppl the opportunity to walk straight even if their beginning is abnormal. Give ppl the hope of a future and a child a start at a balanced life.

The court wedding is to protect you, the woman. It's more for the benefit of the woman than the man.
Some future situations can make a woman not married in the court to lose out completely, especially if her husband dies without a will.

If you cannot abide by the rules and regulations of your church as intending couple, please forget about printing wedding card and putting your church as venue. Have your wedding in court or traditional marriage and face front.

The only wedding/marriage recognise in the bible is traditional but our copy cat from oyibo has turned it to be something else. Some churches are now using that avenue to milk intending couples. Just tdo what you believe and what you can do.

But why are they not testing for all sins? If sin is the backbone of their rules then also do a criminal background check, do a lie detector test, do a cheaters test to see if the person is wired to be faithful to their spouse, do a lust test to see if the person is lustful, do test of hate, anger levels. Why are these tests always only about one sin when there are so many reasons why marriages crash. If they truly care about marriage and the health of the household and future children then they should be doing full spectrum tests on everyone, even those who have been unemployed for more than three years should not be permitted to marry, those with too low income too. After all, the Bible did make some sayings about lazy men. Let’s make marriage a no-go for many not just the fornicators alone.

Any church that refuses unwed parents the opportunity to wed is one that I see as Godless. If being wed is the true state for families to exist in under God, why would an unborn child be denied that opportunity. They are Godless churches parading as holders of virtue and represent the exact fight that Jesus had daily with organized religion and why he hated religion so much.

Folks so deeply entrenched in dogma and looking for those to view as spiritually weak and personally beneath them cannot even see the absurdity of it.

Anonymous said...

Any way you want to think about it whether in reverence or in fact. The truth stands supreme and the truth is that Mary was an unwed pregnant teenager/woman before marriage. That is the fact. The manner of conception is different from the usual but she was made pregnant before marriage for a reason known only to the Creator. Could she have been impregnated by the same Holy Spirit after marriage, before consummation? 100%. But God chose to put the Christ in her in a culture and time where being pregnant before marriage was a major taboo. So, what lesson are we supposed to learn from God’s actions?

A pregnant unwed young woman, especially teenagers should be treated with kindness and mercy and that is the end of it. We do not have to know under what manner they became pregnant before showing mercy, they do not owe us their story. The raped teenager who becomes pregnant is still a virgin mother. We owe God right living and part of living right is showing goodness to others. And under that banner unwed men and women who are pregnant and wish to marry should not be forbidden a church wedding. Let them marry and receive the gospel and support from others in the fold and the innocent child welcomed fully into the flock. This is the Godly thing to do. Didn’t Jesus say “suffer the children to come unto me and forbid not for such is the kingdom of heaven.” We recognize a child’s existence from conception, so welcome them before birth.

All you said is correct apart from the 6 months compulsory marriage course..I didn't believe in the sleeping at the pastor's house a week to the wedding. It caused Rancor, but I stood my ground. He by himself battled it out with his pastor's and church elders, with the help of his father my father in law, who was a respected elder.

I went from my parents house jeje, which one is stay with pastor and his wife.
Regardless, I did the pregnancy and sti and blood group test.
Infact sometimes they read the result in front of the entire church on your wedding service, as was my case.

So truly rule is rule, apart from sleeping in pastor's house. That one makes no sense.

Same Assemblies of God that has factions? Mschew! I don’t even understand people who allow these Churches to have a say in how they choose to live. Thank goodness these ones went to another church. They cannot have a unified church leadership yet they want to unite couples.

A very eligible Salvation Ministry pastor in a neighborhood parish didn't marry in the Church, the Church is strict about how weddings are conducted and that may have informed his decision. On the above, it's called solemnization of HOLY matrimony. If you know you're carrying evidence of your unholiness, kukuma arrange yourself.
