Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked a base of the Nigerian Army in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an unspecified number of soldiers. Local and security sources confirmed the attack, saying the incident happened at Forward Operation Base of the 153 Task Force Battalion, around 3:00am on Monday.

Former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (rtd), is dead. He celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024. Olubolade, the Ipoti-Ekiti-born retired officer, died on Sunday, May 11, in Apapa, Lagos.

A Professor of Medicine and Consultant Psychiatrist, Chris Piwuna, has been elected as the national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, has disclosed that the state-owned energy firm would resume oil drilling in the northern part of the country. This comes over two years after the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari launched the crude oil drilling project on the border of Bauchi and Gombe states.

. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Benue State Command identified as Simon Agbo at his residence in Makurdi, the state capital. A close relative of the victim who disclosed this to journalists on Monday, in Makurdi, said the officer was whisked away on Sunday night while with his neighbours.

The grieving family of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education brutally murdered in February, has appealed to the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin to release her remains for proper Islamic burial.
The appeal was presented by the Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, during the continuation of the trial of five suspects charged in connection with the murder.
The lead suspect, Abdulrahman Bello, is facing charges alongside four others for conspiracy and homicide.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Abia State on May 23, to among other things, commission the 6.5 kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba, which was rebuilt by the administration of Governor Alex Otti administration after more than 15 years in dilapidation.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi disclosed this to journalists while inspecting the damage done at the Osisioma axis of the 56 kilometre Abia Tower of Peace, Umuahia to Rail Flyover, Aba section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, a different Federal government project.
Umahi expressed joy that work on Port Harcourt Road, Aba, which was left in a dilapidated state over the years, had now been completed by Abia State government, awaiting commissioning by Mr. President.
The Minister commended Governor Otti for not only completing work on the road, but also for the quality job done.
