UK-Based Woman Petitions Ogun State HOA Over Monarch's Alleged Scam Marriage And Extortion

Christy Oluwabunmi Oyewole, a Nigerian woman based in the United Kingdom, has submitted a petition to the Ogun State House of Assembly, alleging that Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju, the Abepa of Joga Orile in Yewa North Local Government Area, fraudulently took advantage of her under the pretense of marriage.

In the petition, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Daisi Elemide, Oyewole detailed how the monarch allegedly deceived her into a fake marriage and defrauded her of over N115 million, including N65 million in cash, jewelry worth N50 million, and other personal properties such as mobile phones.

"It is with pain that I write to the Ogun State House of Assembly about my ordeal in the hands of an Ogun monarch," Oyewole wrote.
"Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju has fraudulently taken all my life savings."

Oyewole, who currently resides in the UK, narrated how the monarch approached her for marriage following the collapse of her previous marriage due to domestic violence.

She said she initially expressed concern about still being legally married to her ex-husband, but Oba Adekeye assured her that he would assist with the divorce process.
According to her, “It was later that I discovered that the divorce and marriage papers he provided were outrightly fake and masterminded by the monarch to scam me.”

She alleged that after their marriage, the monarch persistently borrowed money, jewelry, and other items from her, promising to return them.
However, despite her efforts to retrieve the assets, she claims the traditional ruler has used his status and influence to shield himself from accountability.

“When I realised that he had duped me, I tried everything humanly possible to retrieve my money and properties from him,” she said. “But he has continued to use his position as a monarch to evade justice.”

Oyewole further appealed to the Assembly for intervention, expressing her hope that the legislative body would help her recover her losses and restore her life.

“I am stranded. I am confident that with your intervention, I can get my life back on track. I hope for your positive response,” she added.
On February 24, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the woman accused Oba Olanrewaju of using marriage as a ploy to defraud her

She told SaharaReporters that the monarch later went ahead to help her obtain a forged divorce certificate to leave her former husband so that the monarch could marry her.
“Kabiyesi went to forge a divorce certificate for me to leave my husband and also took me to the court registry to formalise my marriage with him.

“It was later I realised this is his usual way of deceiving women. In fact, it was later I knew no fewer than five women were once his victims. He always preyed on wealthy ones like me,” the woman had told SaharaReporters in a telephone conversation.

In petitions submitted to the Osun State Governor; Ondo State Governor; Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Inspector General of Police, and Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), otherwise known as Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chairman of Ogun Council of Obas, Ms. Oyewole narrated how Adekeye Adeyemi approached her on June 30, 2022, with romantic advances, promising marriage and financial stability.

“He pretended to be in love with me, vowing to marry me and support my business. Eventually, I was manipulated into transferring over N53 million via electronic transactions, N12 million in cash, mobile phones worth N10.8 million, and gold valued at N120 million,” she wrote in the petition, attaching receipts as evidence.

The victim further alleged that after extorting her, the traditional ruler attempted to lure her into a dubious ritual in Ekiti State, where she was told she would need to sacrifice an eye or a leg to attain financial prosperity.

Realising she was being deceived, she resisted, only to find herself financially ruined and abandoned.
In a shocking revelation, she claimed the monarch had forged a divorce judgment and had used the same fraudulent scheme on at least three other women.

When she demanded a refund of her money and valuables, he allegedly threatened her life, boasting about his influence and ties to cultists and thugs.

“He has converted my hard-earned money, gold, phones, and valuables to his personal use unlawfully. All efforts to retrieve them have proved abortive. Instead, he threatens to kill me, claiming nothing will happen because he is a king,” she alleged.

In her petitions, she wrote, “That one Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju approached me on 30th day of June, 2022 with a confidence trick, pretended to be romantically interested in me when he claimed and vowed that he would marry me being a single mother struggling alone to cater for myself and children without husband.

“It was thereafter revealed to me that the suspect has been using same style to defraud single women who are blessed with wealth. The suspect had used the similar criminal style to defraud three different ladies who were later threatened to be killed if the matters were reported to the law enforcement agencies.”

She said she was hypnotised to an extent of being defrauded of more than N53million via electronic transfer, cash of N12million, mobile phones worth N10.8million, gold worth N120million “under the false pretences to help me boost, develop my business and rebrand my financial status and repertoire”.

  1. I hope she gets justice. Most kings today are political appointees worse than those who chose them for political purposes. Their only hope for eating is dispossessing their communities of land to sell to foreigners. Many of the incidents of insecurity in the south are with the direct or indirect cooperation of these clowns wearing caps about the place. It's not too long ago that someone was begging his governor to assist him with money for a wedding - after decades abroad, you don't have 20k CADto throw a party for the family you want to finance your life.

This lady should approach the EFCC and quit the corner corner system. She should also approach authorities in her domain in case fraudster plans to travel soon. She needs to institute proper forgery and fraud charges.

How can you be silly enough to be giving a man money? How will you be loaning someone money to marry or love you? When a man is clearly committing crime to end your marriage, do you not know he is preparing for another crime and that he is criminal in nature? With this man's track record, was it not obvious he has a wife already? How do you get involved with a Man with no source of income or career history that you can verify? You shouldn't be in the West and be touching your retirement plan unless you don't plan to get old- you are even penalised for that so how did you cash out your retirement? A man with a career prior to meeting you will approach his colleagues, his bank his relatives, so how is his cashing in on his new relationship/ marriage not a massive red sea?

Please women, know God and his plan for marriage. The proverbs 31 woman was not working for her husband. The Ethiopian queen did not finance Solomon's career and she was not pounding yam or cooking for him everyday. Rather, she had staff, slavesand managed her home. In a Jewish setting and fallen world, this picture is uncommon as women only inherited and have based on the power of their fathers and the protection of the men in their lives eg see Caleb's daughters and the four who Moses gave the right to inherit because their father had no son. Your husband should see your success as his responsibility and source of fulfillment, not his piggy bank.

Your wealth is for you and your children, it's not what your husband should be factoring in to running his home. He should be able to challenge God to bless him the same way he established Adam before marriage. Abraham was the one financing his family and still staying awake to ask God for a child when he knew he could make babies. . Christ came to die for his church while it was dead in sin. It is a woman under a curse that her desire will be for her husband and he will rule over her. The sacrifice of Christ redeemed you from every curse. You are now to be loved and for both to submit to each other. It is people who are not saved that will be begging men to just give their name and be having children by or whatever those who opt for that verse quote - their expectation won't be cut short. You are now led in the path of righteousness for His namesake where a table of abundance is set before you
and God provides all your needs.

Trust God, have standards, remember the toil that God blessed and don't be unnecessarily hungry for risk. I appreciate her courage to speak up. I imagine that victims of this man and those like him are nursing silent screams all over the world. At least, this is better than the case of the woman who scammed her own chef son.

  3. Will writing to the HOA give her justice? I think this letter should be sent to the EFCC and authorities where she resides if she really wants justice.

  4. How do some women do this bikonu? For a long time now, I have never given a man my money except for my brothers and my husband (whom I have been married to for 20 years). I give them because they gave me more.

Women should make it a “must” not to give men their money. Even if the man has given you money 200 times, yes don’t give him anything. If he needs food, buy him food, if he needs hospital care, pay directly to the hospital after you have seen results.

I learned the herd way. I have been scammed by a lot of my male cousins whom I tried to help. Do not be a victim.
