I saw a post on Facebook,, a lady snapped the arv she saw in her brother in-law wife's bag and posted on Facebook, asking people what drug it was.
A lot of people were telling her to be careful of that woman so she won't infect her children, stop visiting her, etc I just shook my head at their ignorance, well I was once like them until I was infected and got more information about the virus.
I'll rather get comfortable with someone who knows her status and taking drugs than someone who doesn't even know, most of the people advising her might even be a carrier without knowing. We don't go around testing people before we relate with them,so why do people grow sudden fear once they know someone's status?

ReplyDeleteTwo very promising drugs have recently been given approval. One of them being Lenacapavir. Lenacapavir is a once in 6 months injection that prevents HIV infection. In other words, we can actually expect a time in the near future where contacting hiv will be a thing of the past.
There are also a number of medications that can be taken just twice or once a month to fight the virus itself instead of the present daily regimen. Unfortunately, the funding for these and more have been cut off for no reason whatsoever by Trump.
Lenacapavir, if and when it hits the market, will retail for around 12,000 dollars. That's 24,000 dollars in a year. It will be under patent protection for a while so its generics won't be available soon.
There's a very bright light at the end of the tunnel. HIV will be eliminated in our life time. To anyone positive, keep up hope and start gathering those dollars. You will need it.
There is still a lot of stigma associated with hiv and those living with it are often viewed as being sexually immoral, only children are spared these judgments. Anybody who is going to disclose widely must have thick skin.
ReplyDeleteI don’t expect someone to tell me about their heart disease, lupus, or cancer so I don’t expect someone to tell me about their hiv. When it comes to contagious diseases that are deadly hiv isn’t one. The flu kills so many ppl yearly but where is the fear about coming in contact with someone who has the flu. We should be keeping far away from ppl with colds and flu, but we don’t. Stigmatization of a disease is a conscious creation.
