After fixing two of the faulty machines out of the four in less than 30mins, the woman felt it was a minor fault and she had overpriced him. She decided to play a fast one before he will finish the four of it.
In the presence of the man, she spoke in Igbo language to one of her girls that she will delay payment to the man, saying it was a minor issue to pay such a money to him. She told her girl she will go out and when the man finishes, she should call her, put it on speaker and inform her he's through fixing it. She will then reply telling her to inform the man there was an emergency and she had traveled to be back at the weekend. The man should go and come back at the weekend for the payment.
The man heard everything and smiled .... The man grew up in Eastern Nigeria and had worked with the defunct railway corporation before relocating to Port Harcourt. So he hears and speaks the Igbo language fluently.
The woman did as she said thinking she had fooled the man not knowing it was herself she fooled. After the girl informed the man the conversations between her madam and her which was on speaker and equally heard by the man, the man requested to speak with the woman. He greeted her in an Igbo language and went on to say he didn't understand what her girl is saying.

The woman was shocked hearing him speak Igbo language. It dawned on her she had fooled herself. Still speaking in the Igbo dialect, the man threatened he will go with one of the machines as settlement if in the next few minutes he's not paid. That was how Madam called her girl and directed her to pick up money from the POS close to them and settle the man.
I know how many times people thought I'm not Igbo and had said something bad only to find out later I'm Igbo. Sometimes I love the disguise to see what people think and will say about me.
Indeed, it's a crazy world filled with people with different character.

We are in era where people speaks multiple languages, we need to be very careful. If were to be something complicated, that's how she would have put herself in problem.
ReplyDeleteSome people are very mean. That's how she would have delayed the man's payment had it been he didn't understand the language. Na God catch her.

ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteI made a mistake like this in the U.S.
I was new in town when a family friend took me to a party in Boston (1995).
Sat down quietly and directly opposite an African American lady who was/is married to a Naija Man.
The lady's husband left the table to do something - maybe to use the rest room.
The African American lady suddenly started talking angrily that her husbannd left her, so she began to speak in their usual way. I didn't understand her phonetics so I turned to the woman with whom I went to the party and said "Akata ti nbinu o, nibo lo'ko wa lo bayi."
The Yoruba woman beside me stepped very hard on my toe. I looked in her direction to a warning stare. It was then the African American lady looked at me and said in a fluent Yoruba language "what is wrong with you?
I learned later that she understands and speaks Yoruba fluently.
Dubious woman. Thank God the man understands everything she planned to do.
