The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) is investigating how Haruna Ayo, a convicted armed robber serving time at Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, ended up at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) passport office in FESTAC Town, Lagos, allegedly to process travel documents.
Further digging revealed Ayo had been using medical appointments as a cover to process his passport and visa—possibly with help from compromised hospital staff and prison officials. At least two correctional officers have been suspended, but insiders suggest the rot runs deeper.
The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, under suspicious circumstances. Ayo, whose life sentence had been reduced to 21 years, was reportedly among inmates assigned to do chores at a senior officer’s residence. During this outing, he was handed over to another officer who took him to the passport office. Immigration officials became suspicious when the escorting warder abruptly said he needed to return Ayo to prison. Both were detained on the spot.

ReplyDeleteThings I see in movies unraveling before our eyes. Ayo na mastermind
ReplyDeleteThe rot in the system is obviously deeper than imagined.
ReplyDeleteI think some of the correctional officers stay in the prison quarters within the prison premises.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, it was when the prison officer could not wait to get to the prisoner' s turn that he mistakenly said they were expecting him back in the prison. I also read that in two yrs time, he would complete his jail term.
ReplyDeleteWhen other countries see this kind of thing, they put more restrictions on Nigeria 🤦🏾♀️
ReplyDeleteIn advanced countries, his name would be flagged as a convict during processing.
There was indeed a country.
But the fact that he is an ex conviction does not mean he can't travel. That's discrimination
Delete*ex convict
DeleteMust have been going on for long....so much rot in the system.
ReplyDeleteBut why are they suspending the corrupt officials? They should join the inmates in jail!

ReplyDeleteNothing surprises me anymore. The corruption keeps fighting back.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised, Nigerians are fundamentally rotten to the core, what's happening at the top is a reflection of who the average citizen is.
ReplyDeleteOnce you have money in Nigeria, you have power.
Fisayo Soyombo has done an expose on Nigeria correctional centres...There are career prisoners who wait at the bustop like you and I resuming and closing from prison like commuting to work...Corruption Don yakpa
