Chronicle Of A Person Living With A Positive Status

Another case of hiv infection through blood transfusion was reported in Edo state recently.
I feel so bad that at this age and time, people are still getting infected in the most avoided way, now the little boy will have to live with the virus throughout his life except scientists are able to get the cure in the nearest future.

A friend invited me to a blood bank seminar, she works in a lab , I only went there for the item 7. After the seminar, they encouraged us to try and donate blood so as to save lives. No prior testing, nothing.
I heard they will even sell the blood donated free to patients. I told them I can't donate, they kept talking and talking but I told them no,I couldn't disclose my status, but what of people that are not aware of their status and donated? I know they might still screen it but what of if they omitted screening before giving it out?

Now, the little boy will have to live with people looking at him with corner eyes, the stigma of carrying what he had no fault in.

Please, let's show love to people living with this virus around us, not all of them got it through reckless living. Cos that's how people see us, that we are carrying it as a punishment for reckless living.

There's another lady I knew that got the virus through mother to child transmission, the mother wasn't aware of her status cos they lived in a remote area, she got to know about her diagnosis at the age of 10, mother already passed without knowing the cause of the death.

Now she's grown up, and was serving when I met her . She's never been in a relationship cos of the issue, the last time I spoke with her, she told me she's passing through a lot and can't disclose with anyone.

Sorry this is coming late

  1. Why will an hospital not screen blood? In this time and age? I find this hard to believe

  2. May God be with everyone dealing with the virus and bring a cure soon.

There ought to be punitive measures for this level of recklessness in healthcare where human error is not even allowed to occur but negligence just takes over.

  5. Reason why I will never allow blood transfusion for anyone around me, the danger is too much. I've heard about this kind of case before in Abuja
