Senator Natasha’s Trial For Alleged Cybercrime Against SP Akpabio And EX Gov Bello Begins Today

The trial of Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on alleged cybercrime against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, will commence on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The trial on a six-count criminal charge is being coordinated by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice.

Natasha, suspended from the Senate six months ago over alleged breach of Senate’s rules, was arraigned in court on June 30, 2025, when charges were read to her and she pleaded not guilty.

Justice Mohammed Umar is to adjudicate over the trial with the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, DPPF, Mohammed Babadoko Abubakar billed to lead the prosecution for the Federal Government.

A Professor of Law, Roland Otaru SAN, is expected to lead the defense team for the suspended Kogi Central senator.

The Senate President had in a petition to the Inspector General of Police complained about damages allegedly done to his reputation by Natasha on the accusation that he (Akpabio) planned to assassinate her in Kogi State.

On the strength of the investigation by the police, Senator Natasha was on June 30, 2025, docked for cybercrime against Akpabio and Bello.

The allegations in the charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, are rooted in cybercrime provisions and revolved around Natasha making false and injurious information via electronic means, allegedly calculated to malign, incite, and endanger lives and breach public order.

Among the particulars of the charge are claims that Natasha, while addressing a gathering on April 4th, 2025, in Ihima, Okehi local government area of Kogi State, alleged that Akpabio instructed Bello to have her assassinated.

Similarly, in a television interview, she allegedly repeated the narrative, suggesting a murderous conspiracy against her life by Akpabio and Bello.
However, following her not guilty plea and the DPPF not objecting to her bail, Justice Mohammed Umar had admitted the senator to bail on self recognizance.

The judge had also fixed September 22 for commencement of trial.

Prof Otaru, SAN, who argued Natasha’s bail application, had submitted that the suspended senator was not a flight risk and would not interfere with police investigation and witnesses.

He had also argued that the country’s constitution presumed her innocent while the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, emphasized bail in such an offence.

  2. she was not wise, before you accuse the high and mighty, you must have a strategy, have enough evidence that will nail the coffin, if not the system will fight you. the hunter will become the hunted. she is even lucky to be alive.

    1. Forget matter, Natasha is a well seasoned lawyer and won’t go as far as she went if she didn’t have strong evidence and also for a fact her husband is more powerful and mighty both politically and financially ,nationally and internationally than most popular politicians you hear their name . Her husband is a political heavyweight especially in the south south region where they’re all from, just that he’s a low key king maker without noise but a smooth operator. It’s a case of 2 elephants fighting. Don’t be surprised they’ve settled it behind but due to the publicity given to the case it won’t be swept under the carpet like that hence the court gragra. This is how it will keep dragging until normalcy returns
