Senator Oluremi Tinubu Announces N20 Billion Birthday Gift For National Library Project..

TWENTY BILLION AS BIRTHDAY GIFT!!!!

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu has announced she has received the sum of ₦20 billion towards the completion of the National Library project.
Speaking at a lunch with State House correspondents to mark her 65th birth
day on Tuesday at the presidential Villa, said the library project was her chosen legacy gift to the nation.

The First Lady explained that instead of receiving cakes, gifts, and adverts for her birthday, she appealed to Nigerians to channel their goodwill into funding the completion of the National Library.

The Senator Tinubu dismissed claims that the gesture had political undertones, stressing that her only motivation was service to the country.

“I want to clear the air about some people saying it has a political undertone. What is wrong in doing well?” she asked.

Speaking on the reason for choosing the National Library, Tinubu recalled her years in the Senate where she served for 12 years on the Committee on Education. She said her humble upbringing also made her appreciate the value of libraries.
“From a humble background, the library played a role in my life,” she said.

“That’s why I thought this is a worthy cause.”
The First Lady noted that education remained central to national development and pledged to sustain her commitment to projects that would benefit future generations.

She stressed that about ₦20 billion has so far been raised for the library project through the Oluremi @65 Education Fund.

  1. They are not happy she is making a positive impact.
Why would anybody have a problem with this initiative really, would they have preferred that th3e monies are given to her and she keeps it in her personal bank account?
They hail the candidate who goes round donating N5m, N10m or N15m around the country but are not happy that this woman is donating hundreds of millions, even if it is 'our money' as you allege, is it not good it is being given to good and positive people causes instead of keeping it in her account?

    1. You have a problem with the people and haven't taken time to read their arguments, why must we rely on charity to take care of our Library?the man you mentioned is donating his money, this money is charity.

Kudos to her by the way.

    2. Even in countries where government builds libraries, private sector and charitable organisations do so as well. Funds are raised by people of influence for projects such as this. It's not just about serving rice and dropping 5k USD up and down.

The pain is that it's a library: the kind of infrastructure that sponge bob is unlikely to utilise or appreciate.

Guess the safest places to find refuge during the "mostly peaceful protests" of the COVID era: libraries and shops selling work boots. Books are still the best of safes.
