INSIDE THE MIND OF A WOMAN GOING THROUGH MOTHERHOOD

In the last few weeks, I have been shouting at my boys. I had been overwhelmed, fatigued, and strung out, so I have been taking it out on them a little. Now that I am better, I am trying to right my wrongs.

I normally apologise when I raise my voice, but I have been apologising a lot these days. Its not that they are or have been extra, I am the one who has been overstimulated and struggling to regulate my emotions.
I saw this ongoing challenge online in one of the online parenting communities I belong to. It's a no shouting or raising our voices for two weeks. I am one day in, and I have been catching myself raising my voice.

I told the children about the challenge, and they started to giggle when I stopped mid shout, and I lowered my voice and whispered. I know I will break the rules at some point, but I will keep trying my best to stop shouting and apologising when I do until it becomes part and parcel of me.

DEAD PEOPLE REAPPEARING

Dead people appearing to their loved ones has always baffled me. For years, I dismissed it as mere superstition. 

I thought it was something told to frighten children or keep adults entertained. But everything changed the day it happened to my Aunty.

She was in Owo, studying quietly at school.
Her boyfriend suddenly appeared, smiling, and came to see her. They talked, they laughed, nothing seemed out of place. To her, it was just another ordinary visit. But far away, in Ifon, something terrible had happened.

He had been hit by a car, killed instantly.
The timeline didn’t make sense, he died before he appeared. The next morning, his mother called my aunty with the news.

My aunty nearly lost her mind.
She cried, screamed, insisted he was just with her yesterday. Her classmates swore they had seen him too. She struggled for years to come to terms with it. Even now, the memory unsettles her. And I, too, cannot shake the mystery.

Why do the dead come back?
Is it love? Is it unfinished business?
Or is it something we may never truly understand?
