The second cover shot Stella put up there was something we had in our home for a while in the nineties. Ikebe Super was quite incredible then. I think that's where Papa Ajasco started?
Ikebe Super was the pioneer for most of the glamour papers and magazines we have in Nigeria now. Encomium and ovation among them.
Yeah, I'm showing my age. We've been ancestors for quite a while now.
Lol 😂🤣 @ ancestors Memories oh, ikebe super by Wale Adenuga..has characters like papa Ajasco, boy Alinco, miss Pepeye 🤣🤣 this was our best magazine growing up before Hints & Hearts came
You tried. But Ikebe Super is not the pioneer of glamour magazines Ikebe Super was just a cartoon magazine or comic.
The originator of "soft sell" magazines and journalism in Nigeria as it was then called is Punch Newspaper. Punch Newspaper pioneered the easy to ready and glamour journalism in Nigeria. The Vanguard Newspaper took the second lap. The Weekend Concord took the third lap. Then ... And the blogs came
The Magazines were - Prime People, Vintage People, Crown Prince, Fame, Encomium, Global Excellence, Ovation, City People, the one by Stella's friend, Azuh Somewhere in between, we had Classique by the unforgettable MEE and the other Magazine by the still beautiful Sista (now Aunty for some) Moji.
If We talk about Drum and Spear Magazines, some of una go ask when be dat? Hahahahaha
Yes, I read them all. We had this newspaper vendor in those days, who ĺived downstairs - a kind man who let us linger over the papers and all magazines he brought back from collection, long before they went on sale the next morning. Just don't rumple, tear, or make a mess on them. For us, it was like stepping into a hidden library, one where the stories of the world were ours to borrow for a few quiet hours.
I forgot to add Hearts magazine and global excellence magazine. Hints and Hearts were for real/fictional stories while fame, Encomium and global excellence were for gossips
Better Lover magazine was for this who loved reading knackademus stories 🤣
I don’t remember and I’m not that young (early 30s) maybe because my parents didn’t buy them. Just sun newspaper and the occasional punch on the weekends
Wetin we no read for our house😀 Even drum magazine that was more scandalous, my dad used to buy them all. Those journals a lot of children hid to read, we read them all at home. It really helped because when our agemates were getting fascinated and carried away with some things, they weren't much of a big deal to us.Ikebe super was so interesting
