Senator Nwebonyi Faces Defamation Charges Over Televised Remarks Against Senator Natasha Akpoti

The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a criminal defamation charges against Deputy Chief whip, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi over allegedly defamatory remarks made against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.
 

The government represented by the Attorney General in a suit Marked CR/547/2025, filed at the FCT High Court in Abuja alleges that between  March 3 and 29, 2025 on Arise TV, Channels TV, TVC, News Central, and other media outlets that Senator Nwebonyi allegedly described Senator Natasha as “a habitual accuser,” “a known blackmailer,” and “a woman who uses her gender as a weapon”.
 
If convicted, Senator Nwebonyi could face imprisonment, fines, or both under the Penal Code provisions.
