AFCON 2025 round-of-16 first match took place on January 3, 2026, Mali defeated Tunisia 3-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Tunisia’s Firas Chaouat scored in the 88th minute leading to 1-0 lead. But Mali fought back with Lassine Sinayoko equalizing from a penalty to make it 1-1 in the 90+6th minute of stoppage time to take the game to extra 30 minutes of play.
There was no winner at extra time,and the penalty shootout that followed saw Tunisia missing three out of their five penalty and Mali missing two out of their five penalty, the final penalty of the game saw Mali’s El Bilal Toure score the winning penalty kick.
Mali has advanced to the quarter-finals, and Tunisia is eliminated from AFCON 2025..

Even with one player down due to red card at 26th minute Mali still stood strong. Kudos to their GK he really went above and beyond last night.
