Lagos State Passenger Boat Accident Leaves Four D3ad And 4 Rescued

Six passengers have been confirmed dead while four others were rescued after a marine passenger boat was involved in a fatal accident along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun Water Channel in Lagos State.

‎The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 8:35 p.m., according to a joint statement issued on Wednesday by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

‎The statement was jointly signed by LASWA’s Head of Public Affairs Unit, Wuraola Alake, and NIWA Lagos Area Office’s Head of Corporate Affairs Unit, Omowunmi Yussuff.

‎The agencies said the boat, identified as a Savvy Marine passenger vessel, was en route from Ilashe Beach House when the accident occurred.

‎The statement read, “Upon receiving a distress alert, they immediately activated their search and rescue teams, which responded promptly and worked closely in collaboration with the Marine Police and other first responders.
‎“As of the time of this report, four passengers have been successfully rescued and transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
‎“Sadly, six other passengers were found dead at the scene. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing to account for all persons involved.”

‎Preliminary findings by the waterways authorities suggest that the boat may have collided with a submerged object, though investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the mishap.

‎The agencies assured the public that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out and that further updates would be provided as more details emerge.

  1. Haven't they talked about night journey that it's very dangerous on waterways, that if anything happens, it will be very difficult to rescue people because of darkness.
May their souls rest in peace.

  2. Safety issues, why travel at night time on the water way? Preventable situations. Same goes with over speeding. Stop over speeding on the motorway.

Please, no matter how nicely dressed you are, USE THE LIFE JACKETS. LISTEN TO THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO TURN IT ON AND REFRESH YOUR MEMORY FROM YOUR PHONE WHERE IT SHOULD BE STORED.

The government should also MAKE SURE THESE JACKETS ARE AVAILABLE AND ONLY LIFT AS MANY AS PROPERLY WEAR THEM.
