Nigerian Govt And ASUU Set To Sign Agreement To Increase Salaries And Improve Universities

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are set to formalise a new agreement on Wednesday, January 14, aimed at improving Nigeria’s University system and ensuring long‑term stability.

The signing ceremony will take place at the TETFund Conference Hall in Maitama, Abuja, and will be presided over by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad.

The agreement is described as a significant milestone in efforts to build a more stable, productive, and globally competitive higher‑education sector. It also aligns with recent government commitments, including a proposed 40% salary increase for academic staff, which ASUU accepted late last year.
