Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retired), has sent a clear message to state governments to stop negotiating or signing peace agreements with bandits. In an interview with BBC Hausa on January 16, 2026, the minister explained that such deals are dangerous and only make the security situation worse. He stressed that bandits cannot be trusted to keep their word.
Instead of honouring agreements, they often use the time to regroup, get stronger, and attack again.
He said;
"There will be no negotiated settlements, no ransom payments, and no legitimisation of armed groups terrorising communities,"
He added that the Federal Government has warned all levels of government against this approach many times because it weakens military operations and encourages more crime.
He also called on citizens to stop helping bandits in any way whether by giving them food, money, information, or any other support. "That kind of help only fuels violence and makes it harder to bring peace," he warned.
General Musa made it clear that the armed forces remain fully committed to ending banditry and terrorism. He said Nigeria is facing tough challenges right now, but with everyone working together and citizens reporting suspicious activities, lasting peace is possible.

Very competent man. If not for the US and Donald Trump, the Nigerian government wouldn't have appointed him for the job.
ReplyDeleteI read his warning to Sheikh Gumi. This man doesn't joke. A good one if you ask me.

ReplyDeleteI get his point. They are ki!!ing innocent ppl, it’s not like they are fighting for a just cause and just demonstrating and protesting for their rights, they are taking the lives of innocent rural ppl living simple lives. People they know who are unarmed and unlikely to be able to out fight them. They are demons, who in their right mind would make a deal with a demon from the pits of hell? Can a demon be trusted? Yes, maybe the ‘peace’ will hold for a moment, but demons are tormentors, so they will always come back and they will always ask for more. He knows what he is saying, he understands their psyche.
ReplyDeleteIt's only in Nigeria you will see them negotiating with bandits, and be recruiting them to Nigerian army, what a shame, people that they supposed to kill immediately.
ReplyDeleteNegotiating is done the world over. Recruiting them into the armed services, that's gross idiocy.
DeleteKill them all. No negotiation, no arrest, no soft landing. Just kill them as soon as they're caught.
ReplyDeleteTrump and the US are not joking.
ReplyDeleteThe heat is on that's why the tone and approach of FG changed.
