    1. That's so much increment within a short time! My landlord increase from 400k to 500 k last year. This year he has increased it to 600k. It seems like he will be adding 100k every year at this rate. A one bedroom flat in Yenagoa for that matter. It is well.

  2. I always say it that if God bless you, buy or build house first, don't rush to buy car unless it's for business, if you have a house of your own, you're free from at least 30% of this life troubles.

    1. Sometimes the issue is where your money can buy may not be where you want to live, cos of security and so on. You buy in a developing area but the place may not have adequate security and your work proximity so your tenants pay you peanut while you pay your own landlord outrageous amount. Na God go help us

    1. Say you use 50m to buy four flats and renovate, how much will you collect each year before you get the money back. This is why rent is going up

  13. Landlords are raising rents significantly these days, and my landlord is no exception. Unbeknownst to him I've been ghosting the place for months, planning my exit strategy.
We've been informed of a 50% rent increase per tenant. With my lease expiring soon, I'm weighing the pros and cons of renewing versus finding a new place which will better suit my needs for personal reasons. A significant reason is that scorpions have a history of stinging me in that house, particularly during rainy seasons..We don kill like 5 snakes for broad daylight for that house. If it weren't for God's gracious grace. I'd be a toast.
Neighbors are like ' don't go!' but honestly, even if I wanted to stay, those scorpions wouldn't get the memo.

  15. Ours was increased from 400k to 700k in the guise that she wants to renovate it. Before the increment, she was always adding 50k yearly.
We moved out and just painting was done for a house that was built since 1992.
The funny thing is that she's even based on Germany.

  16. This problem is majorly because Govt is not doing anything in the area of housing. If we have Govt low-cost houses like Jakande built then all over the country, rent will not skyrocket as supply will exceed supply which is the problem.

Having said that, landlord should have small milk of kindness because you are sowing seeds that you will reap. How can you increase someone's rent by over 200% because demand is high? ??
Then on Sunday you wear clothes and go to church calling yourself a Christian, that is wickedness.
.yes, everything has gone up but have compassion on these tenant whose source of income is not increasing and all other things have increased.
It is well with us, we will survive it.

  17. Landlords in Abuja are using tenants to arrange their futures. My former landlord drove everyone from the house. He didn't even say he wanted to increase, he just said leave. I am sure he also wants agency fee. The stupid so called agents are the ones mis-advising the landlord. This new house, the landlord built within 2 months because it was the season all landlords were ejecting tenants and he quickly wanted to make houses available. Now all the apartment are having cracks. Serious cracks. Everyone is talking about leaving when rent is due, make house no go fall for our heads.

  19. Our landlord did major renovation in January. He is based outside the country but very active in the house WhatsApp group. All tenants were to renew their rent by the end of January.
Lawyer started calling tenants individually to inform them of a 50% rent increment.
Tenants told him to post it on the WhatsApp group.
Lawyer couldnt post( obviouslythe landlord didnt authorise any increment)

  23. Rent is another thing in Lagos now. Imagine from 350k for a 2 bedroom flat in 2023 to #1.1 for the same apartment in 2025/2026! . It's crazy.
